The Deadly Hitwoman: The Heiress's Special Abilities

Chapter 784: Chapter 784: Xia Ji’s Past (Part 3)

Therefore, breaking through to the Divine Level is not only Xia Ling’s personal wish, but also the expectation of the entire Xia Clan.

Xia Qingcheng slightly closed his eyes to conceal the hint of pain that flashed through them. After a moment, he continued, ”But in the end, an unexpected event occurred. She ultimately could not withstand the Divine Tribulation, evil energy invaded her body, desire scorched her, and she hovered between life and death. There was only one way to keep her alive, to break her goddess-like purity and disperse some of her cultivation. At the time in Tianqing Pool, we were far from the city and the situation was urgent. The elders suggested that she should be left to fend for herself. This is the fate of the Holy Daughters of the past, not just hers alone. But her father, how could he stand by and watch his daughter die like this? So, he begged me to save her.”

”As the Clan Leader of the Xia Clan, having never married, I was indeed the most suitable person. Saving her, according to the clan rules, she would be my only woman in this life, also the Clan Leader’s Wife of the Xia Clan. At that time, I hesitated indeed, and several elders present strongly opposed it, as Ling’er had a fierce personality, not the most suitable choice for the Clan Leader’s Wife. What none had expected was that, to plead for me to save her, her father killed himself in front of us.”

”He pleaded with his life, begging me to save her. In the end, I softened, ignoring the opposition of the elders present, took her away, and saved her life. But... when she awoke, her cultivation drastically fell, with no chance of advancement, and her special wood element abilities disappeared consequently. She fell from the peak that was merely a step away from Divine Level... While still seen as a high existence in the eyes of ordinary people, to her, it was like being a worthless being.”

”This wasn’t the most important thing, the most important thing was... her father ultimately died, leaving no words for her, just died like that.”

”She asked me why I saved her. She said she would never forgive me in her lifetime.”

”She would rather have died in that calamity than wake up and face all this.”

”I have never regretted saving her life, but indeed I have wronged her. I saved her life but can never heal the wound in her heart.”

”She hated me deeply, unwilling to be the Clan Leader’s Wife. She used her hand, with her fingertips, dug a grave bit by bit, buried her father, and decisively left the Xia Clan.”

”Outsiders do not know what happened, but according to the Xia Clan’s rules, she cannot seek revenge.”

”I do not know exactly how much hatred she left with, but surely it must be, hatred to the extreme.”

Having said these words, Xia Qingcheng looked at Su Yu: ”The bloodline of the Xia Clan is special, when you were born, I sensed it. It was my fault, had I sent someone to bring you back, perhaps... things would not have unfolded later. But at that time, I thought she was still the kind-hearted and bright little girl from before, and with you by her side, perhaps there would be a tiny bit of comfort for her, but overlooked that the hatred she held against me would inflict harm on you. It was my momentary mistake that caused you.”

Even now, Xia Qingcheng does not know if he had done wrong, perhaps to Ling’er, dying in that calamity might have been far happier than surviving.

At the moment she awoke to see her beloved father dead, likely, the Xia Ling of those years also died with it.
