CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 1840: Chapter 1848: At First, There Wasn’t

”Dad, why are you so happy?” Brooke Black put down the items in her hand, took her husband’s arm, and walked towards Old Master Black. Then she sat next to him, reached out, and patted the head of Great General’s son.

The Great General, lying beside them, also nudged his head against the back of Brooke Black’s hand, making his intentions clear.

He wanted to be petted too.

”Look, this Great General was raised by Jane Sampson. Doesn’t he resemble her? Especially when he’s being affectionate,” Brooke Black turned to James Black and asked with a smile, ”When Jane Sampson acts all spoiled with you, isn’t she just like this?”

James Black looked down at the Great General, a slight smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

Not only does she resemble him; their way of seeking affection is uncannily similar, both desperately clinging to people, wanting hugs and kisses.

Of course, Jane Sampson has a way of being affectionate that no one else does.

She’d crawl into his pajamas and then poke her head out of the neckline, like a conjoined twin. He’d glare at her, and she’d just laugh more gleefully.

”Bright Sampton, your sister being able to find her family, you deserve credit for that. Your sister has not doted on you in vain.” Old Master Black was not stingy in praising Bright Sampton.

”Yes.” It was only then that Brooke Black focused on what Old Master Black had just said.

She continued, ”Back then, when Jane Sampson said she wanted to be an actor, I was quite surprised. I thought the young girl had many ideas, perhaps thinking the entertainment industry was fascinating, and she wanted to try it out.” Brooke Black sighed as she sat there, ”Thinking back now, the little lass had other thoughts, but she hid them well.”

”James Black, you didn’t notice at the time?” Old Master Black asked James Black, ”That was your wife.”

”I didn’t notice at first.” James Black shook his head.

When she first mentioned becoming an actor, their relationship wasn’t particularly good.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they were distant; he wouldn’t see her more than a few times a year, and when she called, he couldn’t immediately recognize her voice. When Jane Sampson initially said she wanted to act, James Black genuinely didn’t think much of it.

Later on, as he gradually learned more about her and understood the subtle hopes she held in her heart, James Black finally figured out what she had been hiding in her thoughts.

”At that time, Old Sir Sampton and his wife were still around, and although the Sampton Family did have a hand in raising Jane, she cared deeply for her grandparents, so she didn’t dare let them know she wanted to find her parents, fearing it would hurt her grandparents’ feelings.” As Brooke Black spoke of this, she felt even more tenderness towards Jane Sampson.

Jane Sampson was sensitive, so her desire to find her parents was not only hindered by not knowing where to start but was also concealed for fear of others discovering her thoughts.

Because, at that time, she still bore the weight of the Sampton Family.

Jane Sampson must have been very scared at that time, afraid that if the Sampton Family discovered her wish to find her parents, her grandparents there would be very disappointed in her.

She cared about how her grandparents viewed her.

Or rather, Jane Sampson genuinely cared deeply about how every person she cared about viewed her.

Sensitive and insecure.

So she thought of working her way up, hoping that one day her parents would find her on their own.

”I never imagined that my sister’s biological parents would turn out to be from the family of Mr. Carter, whom she really liked in her heart.”
