CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 789: Chapter 797: You Can Hear

After asking her question, Jane Sampson just laughed with the lipstick in her hands, because she knew what James Black would answer the next second.

”In your dreams!”

”Yes.”

Hearing James Black’s voice, Jane continued to laugh. While she slipped under the quilt next to James, she teased him, ”I knew you would say those three words. I said them for you. You’re really no fun.”

James’s eyebrows knitted slightly, ”Jane Sampson, those three words were spoken by you.”

His tone was slightly displeased. What he had just said was clearly one word.

Yes.

Indeed, the phrase ”in your dreams” had lingered on the tip of his lips for several seconds, but just before he was about to speak, the image of a husband and wife he had seen at the auction event that evening suddenly appeared in his mind. So, he forcefully suppressed those three words and replaced them with another answer.

An answer that made him feel somewhat feverish in the brain.

”Then what did you just say?” Jane asked as she poked her head out from the quilt. ”I just heard you speak.”

”I said ’yes,’” James repeated earnestly. ”You just asked me if I liked you, and I told you, yes.”

James saw clearly that Jane froze on the spot, dumbstruck.

A few seconds later, she quickly pulled up the quilt, covering her entire self again, burying her face inside the quilt.

”Jane Sampson, you can hear me,” James spoke seriously.

”I’m not deaf, I can hear. I just think your joke isn’t funny,” Jane’s voice muffled from inside the quilt. ”I didn’t take a lunch break, and I’m really tired now. I want to sleep. Don’t bother me.”

James’s hand couldn’t exert any strength right now, so he couldn’t pull the person burrowed into the quilt out.

However, Jane’s reaction wasn’t quite what he had expected.

She thought he was joking with her.

But in reality, James did not consider himself someone who enjoyed making jokes with others. In fact, he didn’t even think he possessed a sense of humor.

Whether or not his answer was a joke, James knew in his heart.

One word, yes, felt like it should have weighed thousands of pounds before he spoke it.

But after saying it, James again felt, it was no big deal.

”Jane Sampson, what are you hiding from?” James asked, perplexed. ”You are my wife, Jane Black. If I don’t like you, then who do you expect me to like?”

”Then it’s the role of being your wife that you like,” Jane retorted.

”Isn’t that you?” James countered.

”Who knows, it might not be me one day, it could change to someone else,” Jane said. ”Perhaps, it could be Arthur Martin, John Lee, or Fifth King. It’s all possible.”

”In your dreams,” this time James couldn’t hold back and finally spoke those three words. ”I’ve said before, the two of us cannot possibly divorce.”

James had thought Jane would talk back, but instead, she was unusually quiet.

Instead, she stretched out a small, fair hand and clicked off the electric light in the room, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation. This was the first time James felt an emotion called frustration in his heart because of matters of affection.

”Jane Sampson,” James spoke out in the night, calling her name.

However, Jane didn’t answer him.

James waited for a short while but felt no movement from Jane. It seemed she had already fallen asleep.
