CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 290: Chapter 298: Your Birthday

”James Black, what’s the password to your phone?”

Her voice was so light, just like she was muttering to herself.

It seemed like an unconscious remark.

It was precisely because she appeared to be in a drowsy haze and asked him such a thoughtless question that James Black was somewhat taken aback. Regaining his composure, he almost didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.

”Your birthday,” James Black said with a low chuckle.

”Liar.”

Her voice was even softer than before, followed by a self-assured sniff.

”Yeah, I’m lying to you,” James Black couldn’t hold back a laugh this time, meeting her glaring gaze, he asked, ”Were you faking sleep just now?”

”Of course not.” Jane Sampson pushed against James Black’s chest with her hand, ”Isn’t it because you woke me up? You tell me, why does a big man like you always need to hold on to something when sleeping? I was already asleep, and you still had to wake me up. James Black, do you have a little princess living in your heart just like me?”

Jane Sampson really hadn’t noticed that a tough and manly man like James Black would have such a princess-like hobby.

Having finished her complaint, Jane Sampson, drowsy, did not notice the darkening expression on James Black’s face. Since she couldn’t push him away anyway, she simply shifted in James Black’s arms, found the position she considered most comfortable, and closed her eyes to continue sleeping.

Not a second of the woman’s expressions and movements escaped James Black’s watch.

The words ’Jane Sampson, shut up’ almost slipped out, but he managed to hold them back just as Jane Sampson was yawning.

Feeling Jane Sampson wriggle several times in his arms as she searched for a comfortable spot, James Black ultimately didn’t say another word. Once she settled down with her face buried in his chest, he gently laid the quilt over her small chest to keep her from catching a chill from the air conditioner later at night.

Indeed, Jane Sampson was at her most well-behaved when she fell asleep in his arms, quiet and peaceful, like a little cat.

That night, the wind in the Capital Province seemed uncommonly gentle, perhaps because she had a tall and sturdy person by her side, so Jane Sampson slept especially soundly.

If it weren’t for the unset alarm on the phone waking her up, she might well have slept straight through to midday.

The alarm was set by Jane Sampson when she worked in the small town, ringing every morning at seven o’clock.

Waking up at this time had never been difficult for Jane Sampson before, but perhaps because she relaxed all at once last night, Jane Sampson resorted to her old ways of struggling to get out of bed.

The other person in the bed seemed to have gotten up at some unknown time, no longer in the bedroom nor in the public restroom. Alone in the king-size bed, Jane Sampson rotated 360 degrees several times to vent her morning grogginess before slowly becoming alert. Then, she threw off the quilt and sat up, having moved to the foot of the bed where James Black had been sleeping.

If she had kept turning for a while longer, she’d likely find herself on the ground by now.

Dangerously close.

Jane Sampson patted her small chest and climbed out of bed, about to head off to wash, when she turned her head and saw James Black’s phone on the bedhead cabinet. She stood there, lost in thought for a few seconds, and then looked toward the living room.

There was no sound coming from the living room, and she didn’t know what James Black was doing outside, or if he’d possibly gone downstairs for a jog.

In any case, his phone was on the bedhead cabinet, left behind.

Creeping over with light steps, Jane Sampson cautiously picked up James Black’s phone, recalled what he said before falling asleep the previous night, and quickly entered her own birthday. The screen showed an error.
