Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 1038: Chapter 609: Jealousy

Luo Ye glanced back at Ye Xuan, purse her lips: ”I say, you’re the Mayor Ye now, leading by example not following traffic regulations, be careful someone might report you.”

Ye Xuan smiled and rubbed her head: ”Then I’ll have my wife drive, how’s that?”

Luo Ye pushed him away, side-eyeing him: ”Who’s your wife?”

”What a joke...” Ye Xuan stepped forward, failed to catch Luo Ye, then awkwardly smiled, ”Ye’er, you’re not really mad, are you?”

”Mad?” Luo Ye chuckled lightly, ”If I was mad, would you feel particularly proud?”

”Ye’er, Ouyang Zijing was an old playmate, ever since she went abroad, we’ve hardly been in touch. I have no idea how she suddenly appeared here and got transferred to this side.

Honestly, I have no clue about her transfer—this obviously has her family pulling strings...” Ye Xuan hesitated slightly, then said, ”When I came back, I noticed Grandma wasn’t in a good mood, so I specifically talked to her.

Grandma told me that some time ago, she and Grandpa attended a charity gala where they met Ouyang’s grandparents. Grandma Ouyang hinted at wanting me as their son-in-law.

Grandma deliberately avoided it, but after getting home, she kept worrying that Ouyang Zijing might do something extreme. Grandma watched her grow up and knows her personality well.

Ouyang Zijing isn’t a bad person, but she has this trait where she sticks to her decisions come what may, no one can persuade her.

Back then, she went abroad because a girl she competed with did, and she insisted on following to compete with the girl.

I never expected her to come back all of a sudden, Ye’er, you know my personality, don’t you? Don’t worry, I won’t give anyone a chance.”

Luo Ye looked seriously at Ye Xuan: ”Did you ever like her?”

”No.” Ye Xuan shook his head decisively.

”No?” Luo Ye squinted her eyes, ”If not, why do you treat her differently than other girls? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to dig up old scores; just trying to uncover the truth.

Of course, you could lie to me, but trust that the lie will eventually be uncovered, and then it’s hard to wrap things up nicely. Balance it as you will.”

”Ye’er...” Ye Xuan smiled wryly, ”Do you think I have a reason to lie to you? This kind of suspicion is belittling yourself.

I solemnly tell you now, I’ve only liked Ye’er from the beginning to end, I treated Ouyang Zijing specially because of her effort.

Even though her personality is extreme, Ouyang is extraordinarily diligent in her studies—while the girls in our circle compare various material pleasures, she does not participate.

Every time I see her, she’s holding a book, so I treat her differently, but later she went abroad competing with her rival, which I disagreed with.

One can be competitive but shouldn’t be so stubborn. Therefore, after she went abroad, I gradually cut off contact with her.

Grandma says she came back because her competitor is taking a break recently, so she lost the fighting spirit and returned.”

”Uh...” Luo Ye scratched her head confusedly, ”I don’t quite get it; what are they competing for, for so many years?”

”Both are financial and economic prodigies, competing over investment returns. Actually, despite Ouyang’s extreme competitiveness, she never used unscrupulous means, which is commendable.”

Luo Ye eyed him sideways: ”Didn’t you say you’ve hardly been in touch since she went abroad? How do you know everything so clearly without contact?”

”Even without contact, every family exchanges information.” Ye Xuan chuckled, ruffling Luo Ye’s head, ”Are you jealous, darling wife?”

”Jealous?” Luo Ye scoffed, ”I’m just annoyed there’s always a never-ending stream of women around you, from past to present, who knows how many more there might be.

Moreover, why are you particularly different with a girl of such extreme personality? I think you’ve lost it; if she starts competing with me, it’ll be exhausting.

If she could chase her rival abroad for five years, does that mean if I’m with you, she’ll stick with me for life?” Luo Ye shivered, ”Forget it, if that’s the case, maybe I should stay away from you.”

”It’s not that exaggerated.” Ye Xuan smirked, ”She managed to transfer because the Ouyang family’s deliberate manipulations. From now on, doing such things won’t be easy, besides...” He paused, then leaned near Luo Ye’s ear and whispered a few words.
