Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

So, Mr. Lu slowly turned around, his face full of worry. He couldn’t help but sighed deeply:
”Lin, you’ve really given me a big problem this time. I’m at a loss now and I don’t know what to do.”

“Is this the trouble of happiness?”

”Oh, if I had known earlier that our 077 Mechanical Arsenal has such a wide variety of composite materials with excellent performance.”

”I brought my entire team here directly, which saved me from a lot of unnecessary troubles and worries.”

After saying that, Mr. Lu shook his head helplessly.

At this moment, the entire conference room suddenly erupted in laughter, and the atmosphere instantly became relaxed and joyful.

That’s true. If the JL ballistic missile design team had been able to decisively integrate directly into the 077 Mechanical Arsenal, perhaps the launch of the JL ballistic missile would have been a complete success now, instead of losing control the moment it broke out of the water, followed by a violent explosion as happened before.

”Mr. Lu, you guys really misunderstood us!”

Yang Peidong smiled bitterly and patiently explained, ”A few years ago, our 077 Machinery Military Factory was just a small third-tier factory that was about to face bankruptcy.”

”Where could it be so magnificent and powerful as it is now?”

In 1985, the 077 Machinery Military Factory was on the verge of bankruptcy and was in its most difficult phase.

The research and development of special composite materials that accompanies it is also progressing slowly but is still in its infancy.

How is it possible to provide special composite materials for the Julang ballistic missile!

……

The meeting lasted for more than two hours, and Lin Chenran asked Yang Peidong to lead the JL ballistic missile design team to the ”front line”.

Personally search for the most suitable special composite materials for the Julang ballistic missile.

The high-ranking leaders of the Yan State Navy sent Mr. Lu to the 077 Mechanical Arsenal not just for the Julang ballistic missile.

We also hope to improve the Julang ballistic missile.

The range of the Julang ballistic missile has been increased.

Although the current Julang ballistic missile has a certain combat capability, it is limited to the Asian waters due to its range of only 2700 kilometers.

Such limitations make it difficult to cope with global threats and are far from meeting the Yan Navy’s needs for strategic deterrence.

Therefore, it has become a top priority to significantly increase the range of the JL-2 ballistic missile so that it can achieve effective strikes on a global scale.

The senior leaders of the Yan State Navy are well aware that only with a strong military force as a backing can they stand tall on the international stage and effectively deter those forces that have ulterior motives towards Yan State.

……

Lin Chenran had just stepped into his office with a slightly tired body. Before he could catch his breath, the phone on his desk rang rapidly like a death warrant.

”Ring ring ring!”

The clear and loud ringing of the bell broke the brief silence in the house.

Lin Chenran frowned slightly, stretched out his right hand and gently patted his cheeks a few times, trying to wake himself up quickly from his slightly confused state.

Then he walked quickly to the desk, reached out and grabbed the phone that was still ringing.

”Hello! I’m Lin Chenran! Who are you?” His voice was lazily and doubtful.

Then, a familiar voice came from the other end of the phone, like a thunder exploding in Lin Chenran’s ears.

”Lin boy, it’s me!” The other party’s tone revealed the majesty and kindness unique to elders.

Hearing this voice, Lin Chenran straightened his back instantly, and the tiredness on his face was swept away, replaced by incomparable respect: ”Hello, Mr. Zhang!”

”Well, how was it? This time, I was in charge of receiving the design team of the Julang ballistic missile. Did the whole process go smoothly?”

Mr. Zhang asked straight to the point, his words revealing his concern for the progress of the work.

Before Lin Chenran could answer, Zhang Lao immediately asked, ”Do you have any good solution for the problem of the Julang ballistic missile losing control and causing a violent explosion the moment it emerged from the water?”

Facing Elder Zhang’s barrage of questions, Lin Chenran did not dare to be negligent and quickly said, ”Elder Zhang, there is already some clue!”

”Mr. Lu has already selected suitable special composite materials for the Julang ballistic missile in our 077 Mechanical Arsenal.”
