Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 816: Chapter 816: So This Was the Root of It

Duan Zhuangyu’s face darkened upon hearing her stepmother’s words: ”Auntie Jiang, I know it’s not quite appropriate to do this, but right now there’s really no better way. I’m just anxious and thought to have my little brother stay at my place for a few days.

I’ll take him back once Gaodi finds all the books and materials. Can you help us out?”

Normally, relatives helping each other out is no big deal, but the youngest son of the Duan family is so spoiled that if he were to stay over, there would be no peace.

Besides, if he comes over, how can Jiayuan study peacefully? Duan Zhuangyu knows her little brother’s character well but still dares to make such unreasonable requests. She really thinks too much of herself.

Duan Zhuangyu wanted to argue further, but didn’t expect to hear Huo Shanhe’s voice: ”Jiayuan, look who’s here.”

The three people in the room all turned to look at the door and saw the Lun Family behind Huo Shanhe, each carrying gifts.

After coming in, Huo Shanhe said, ”Jingya, Younger Brother Lu and his wife are here.”

Jiang Jingya quickly put away her displeasure and put on a bright smile: ”Changting, Yinghua, come on in.”

With guests at home, Duan Zhuangyu couldn’t continue her conversation and wanted to ask her sister-in-law for a few books and materials, but feared causing more trouble, so she left reluctantly.

After some small talk between the Huo and Lu Families, Mother Lu got straight to the point: ”I believe you know about the two kids. Our two families have known each other for a long time and understand each other well. Naturally, we are pleased with their relationship. What do you all think?”

Lu Licheng is one of the outstanding young men from the compound, so Huo Shanhe and Jiang Jingya naturally had no objections.

After returning to Beijing, Jiang Jingya had privately gauged her daughter’s feelings, and when her daughter mentioned Lu Licheng, there was a sparkle in her eyes. She knew her daughter wasn’t acting on impulse: ”Since the two kids are in love, we won’t oppose it.

However, Yinghua, you’ve just mentioned that our two families understand each other well. As for my Jiayuan and Du Shujian’s matters, you must have heard about their entanglement.

Since you’ve sincerely come to propose today, as elders, we naturally want the best for them. But I feel obliged to say that you should consider seriously, because if they truly end up together, we can’t have you going back on your word at every little disagreement later on.”

Lu Licheng quickly stood up to express himself: ”Aunt, I’m serious about Jiayuan. I’d never do anything to hurt her. I know you might not believe whatever I say now.

But I still want to say that I actually liked Jiayuan a long time ago but never had the chance to express it. Then I learned she already had a boyfriend, so I had to put my feelings away.”

These words stunned both families’ parents, as they had no idea this young man had feelings for Jiayuan so early.

Huo Jiayuan’s face turned red as she heard him admit his feelings openly and looked down without daring to look up for a long time. This guy was really too bold, speaking like this in front of both families’ parents, making her feel extremely embarrassed.

It was still Lu’s mother, Sun Yinghua, who broke the silence first: ”You little brat, no wonder every time we pushed you for blind dates, you resisted so strongly. So this was the reason.”

And Father Lu was more direct: ”Good boy, well done.”

With this matter out in the open, Jiang Jingya really had nothing more to say.

The relationship between Huo Jiayuan and Lu Licheng was now public, and it’s been decided that their wedding date will be set after the college entrance exam, with the exact time to be determined by both families later.
