Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Looks Like This Girl Never Thought About It That Way

During this time, with Yunyi’s help, Huo Jiayuan has already gone through all the high school textbooks. Even if she were to take the exam now, she should be able to get a decent score.

Having thought it through, she decided not to dwell on it: ”Alright, I’ll go back to Beijing with my parents. It’s about time I returned to work anyway.”

She made up her mind that if she really got into university as she wished, she would transfer her job and, along with the money she saved, at least for these few years, she wouldn’t have to ask her parents for money.

The two chatted for a while and then prepared to rest.

Initially, after Gui Kailan and Grandma Su left, Huo Jiayuan wanted Yunyi to move over and keep her company.

But Yunyi didn’t agree. She really disliked complications. First, she didn’t want to keep moving around, and secondly, since she wasn’t married yet, she didn’t want to move in, considering that this courtyard had no shortage of busybodies.

Fearing that Huo Jiayuan might feel scared staying in the courtyard alone, Yunyi asked Huo Jingrui to stay with her temporarily.

This time coming to Zeyang County, Huo Jiayuan had gained a lot. Not only did she pick up her books again, but she also learned cooking from Grandma Su.

Ever since Grandma Su left, all three meals at home have been cooked by her.

She had just prepared breakfast when she heard someone in the courtyard: ”Brother, breakfast is ready. Hurry up and wash up. My Fourth Sister-in-law and the others have an early meeting today, so they won’t be coming for breakfast.”

But after waiting for a while, she didn’t hear any response. Turning around, she was startled by the person standing outside: ”Brother Lu San, why are you here?”

Lu Licheng smiled at the surprised Huo Jiayuan: ”I came for some business, and knowing you’re here, I stopped by to see you.”

Thinking about her situation with Du Shujian, which Lu Licheng knew about, an unnatural expression flashed across her face: ”You haven’t had breakfast yet, right? Let’s eat together later.”

Lu Licheng didn’t stand on ceremony: ”Just in time, I bought some buns from the state-owned restaurant.”

As they were chatting, Huo Jingrui came into the courtyard after his workout: ”Brother Lu San, why are you here?”

Lu Licheng turned to the just-arrived Huo Jingrui: ”I came for some business. Knowing Jiayuan is here, I stopped by to see her.”

Others might not know, but Huo Jingrui was aware of Lu Licheng’s intentions: ”What a coincidence?”

Lu Licheng naturally understood what that meant and didn’t explain, just let out a light ”Mm.”

After all, he couldn’t hide his vacation from this guy.

Huo Jingrui went to the washroom, tidied himself up, and then came out to invite Lu Licheng to sit down for breakfast: ”I have a meeting early this morning and won’t have time to accompany you. Go ahead with your business, and if there’s anything, we’ll talk when I get back at noon.”

The implication was that he didn’t want him to be alone with his sister.

Lu Licheng glanced at Huo Jiayuan but didn’t refute: ”Alright.”

Because he was in a hurry, Huo Jingrui left right after eating, but not before giving Lu Licheng a significant look.

Once everyone had left, Lu Licheng attempted to help Huo Jiayuan clear the dishes.

Huo Jiayuan quickly spoke up to stop him: ”Brother Lu San, I’ll do it.”

But Lu Licheng didn’t stop what he was doing: ”I’ve already had a free breakfast here, so I should contribute somehow.”

He said this intentionally, just to see how Huo Jiayuan would react.

Huo Jiayuan paused for a moment: ”Didn’t you bring buns as well? You weren’t really here just to freeload.”

Lu Licheng noticed that she hadn’t caught on to the underlying meaning in his words and sighed inwardly: It seemed she hadn’t thought in that direction at all.

Lu Licheng didn’t let Huo Jiayuan lift a finger and quickly finished washing the few dishes.

Knowing he shouldn’t stay much longer, especially since his vacation wasn’t that long, he decided to clarify things after careful consideration.
