Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 699: Chapter 699: You Didn’t Just Come to See Us, Did You?

Jiang Jingya listened to Lu Licheng’s words and felt it was increasingly odd. Why was he even using honorifics?

She couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Huo Shanhe, using her eyes to ask him: What’s going on?

Huo Shanhe gently shook his head, and after looking at Lu Licheng again, directly asked, ”Kid, you didn’t come here just to see us, right?”

Thinking of his purpose, Lu Licheng’s face showed a trace of unnaturalness: ”After I came back, I heard some things, so I thought to come and see Jiayuan.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Jingya couldn’t help but furrow her brows slightly.

Lu Licheng’s words clearly showed he had intentions toward their daughter. But having married a military man herself, and with their son also in the military, she didn’t want their daughter to marry another military man. It wasn’t that military men were bad, but mainly because their daughter had grown up pampered. She feared she wouldn’t be able to endure the hardships of being a military wife.

But Huo Shanhe was different; he also picked up on the unspoken implication in Lu Licheng’s words.

Within their peer group in the Quarters, Lu Licheng was considered outstanding. If he really could hit it off with their daughter and became a couple, he would gladly see it happen.

However, their daughter was a bit stubborn, and he couldn’t be the one making decisions for her.

So he said vaguely, ”You’re considerate, but she’s not in Beijing. She’s gone to the Northeast to relax and gets along well with Old Four’s fiancée. She applied for a long leave from work a few days ago, with no fixed return date.”

Lu Licheng had been following Huo Jiayuan’s situation and knew she had gone to Ji City. Coming to the Huo Family, of course, he had his reasons.

Seeing that Lu Licheng didn’t show the slightest surprise, Huo Shanhe understood that the kid probably already knew Jiayuan’s whereabouts.

He was indeed optimistic about Lu Licheng, but he wouldn’t foolishly say it outright. Whether he could earn their daughter’s approval would depend on his abilities.

Having achieved his aim, Lu Licheng didn’t linger. After a few pleasantries, he took his leave.

Once he left, Jiang Jingya looked at Huo Shanhe: ”Do you think he has his eye on our Jiayuan?”

Seeing his wife’s reaction, Huo Shanhe asked, ”You don’t agree?”

Jiang Jingya knew that many families in the Quarters wanted Lu Licheng as their son-in-law. He was indeed excellent, a year older than their son, and had reached the position of battalion commander through his capability. It was said that he had recently earned another distinction.

But being a military wife wasn’t a role everyone could handle, especially their pampered daughter: ”Lu Licheng is certainly excellent, but he’s not suitable for Jiayuan. He’s a battalion commander now and frequently goes on missions. You know Jiayuan’s situation best, and I don’t want her living a life where she’s constantly worried by the slightest disturbance.”

Although Huo Shanhe didn’t agree with his wife’s view, he could understand: ”This matter mainly depends on Jiayuan. Let’s not meddle unnecessarily and create more worries.”

Thinking about it, Jiang Jingya agreed: ”Who knows when that girl will be willing to come back?”

She felt somewhat relieved that their daughter wasn’t in Beijing, avoiding a chance encounter with Lu Licheng. Without meeting, there wouldn’t be a chance for further development. She didn’t wish for her daughter to marry into wealth but wanted her to find a good man who could take care of her.

Actually, Huo Shanhe missed his daughter too: ”It’s good for her to stay there longer, to avoid coming back to face troublesome things and people.”

Jiang Jingya nodded slightly and said, ”I’ll pack some things to send to them later.”

Huo Shanhe heard his wife mention sending things: ”No need to send them. I ran into Gui Kairong when I returned, and he said he’s going to visit his sister in a few days.”
