Yunyi picked up the cup and took a sip of tea, thinking, Even if the Ye Family were to make amends, what could they possibly offer? Surely they couldn’t send Ye Wenjuan to prison, right? ”As for Ye Wenjuan, she will no longer be associated with the Ye Family. Previously, out of consideration for your Third Uncle and Third Aunt, we decided to let things be. After all, Ye Wenjuan was a beneficiary but seemingly innocent, and your Third Aunt is her biological aunt.

”But unexpectedly, she failed to appreciate our goodwill and even dared to target you and Wenhui. Therefore, we can no longer let her off the hook. In the next few days, the Ye Family will publish a notice in the papers disavowing any relationship with her and will also request the authorities to legally revert her surname to Zhang.

Yunyi had anticipated the Ye Family’s reaction but hadn’t expected them to be so decisive. She found this quite satisfactory.

When they had mostly finished talking, Huo Jingrui returned, followed by Liuzi, who was carrying several of Uncle Nian’s signature dishes.

Arriving at the table, Liuzi introduced them, ”These are Southern Fried Meatballs, Sautéed Liver Tips, and Crispy Roasted Lamb Ribs. Please start with these; the rest of the dishes will be served shortly.”

Huo Jingrui didn’t bring wine but instead brought a basin of cow’s milk, from which he poured everyone a small bowl. ”This milk is good; give it a try.”

Xia Dongxue and Ye Bingyu, both having seen the world, didn’t feel out of place. Since Yunyi’s marriage had progressed to the point of meeting the parents, they refrained from further critical discussion.

As they ate, they chatted. This conversation gave Ye Bingyu and Xia Dongxue a new perspective on Huo Jingrui. They found the young man quite impressive; no matter the topic, he could keep up and even offered unique insights.

It was an enjoyable meal for everyone.

After leaving the alley, Xia Dongxue took Yunyi’s hand. ”We’ve already tidied up your room. Do you really not have time to come back and take a look?”

Yunyi found it hard to refuse that pleading look. ”I’m really short on time. Besides, even when I am free, you may not be.”

Hearing this, Xia Dongxue quickly responded, ”We will be, we will be! Just let me know when you’re free. I can take time off anytime to go back. I’m not too busy recently.”

Just listen to that! Yunyi thought. Year-end is approaching, and what workplace isn’t swamped? To get me to visit the Ye Family, she’s even making up excuses.
