Qiao Shaoguo, seeing the expression on her small face, knew it was likely an issue that couldn’t be resolved unless she returned personally. ”Indeed, this doesn’t quite conform to the rules. However, in view of the outstanding contribution you’ve made to our Agricultural Reclamation Group, consider this leave a reward. Are seven days enough?”

Yunyi was very grateful. ”That’s enough. Thank you, Qiao Tuan.”

Qiao Shaoguo was also a decisive person. He turned and went back to write a leave approval slip and a letter of introduction. ”Keep these safe.”

Yunyi thanked him again before leaving the Group headquarters.

Once outside, she saw Huo Jingrui, who was waiting. ”Why did you come here?”

”To pick you up.”

”It’s not far. Why bother coming over?”

”There’s nothing else to do at home. I’ve heated up the food, and it was about time, so I came to pick you up to go back and eat.”

”I just asked Qiao Tuan for leave. I’m planning to go back to Beijing for a trip.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Jingrui’s eyebrows involuntarily furrowed. ”What happened? Do you need help?”

Yunyi looked up at him. ”It’s not a big deal. Just now, a neighbor from Beijing called. They said someone came to their door claiming to be a relative, saying he’s my grandfather’s long-lost younger brother. This is actually something I’ve heard my grandfather mention before, so I want to go back and confirm it.”

Huo Jingrui sounded a bit concerned. ”It couldn’t be someone who found out you’re home alone and decided to show up falsely claiming kinship, could it?”

Yunyi gently shook her head. ”My neighbor said the old gentleman has a childhood photograph of them together, so it’s highly probable he truly is my grandfather’s long-lost brother.”

Huo Jingrui said firmly, ”I’ll go back with you.”

Yunyi quickly tried to dissuade him. ”Please don’t. You must be very busy lately. Don’t let this distract you. I can manage the trip back by myself.”

Huo Jingrui glanced around before taking Yunyi’s hand. ”I’m almost done with my work anyway. I’ll go with you. Otherwise, I won’t be at ease.”

Yunyi couldn’t dissuade him and had to agree.

”Wait for me a moment,” Huo Jingrui said, halting. ”I’ll make a call and have someone buy our train tickets immediately. We can head to the station right after our meal.”

Thinking that the earlier she left, the sooner she could handle things,

Yunyi agreed.
Huo Jingrui turned to enter the Group headquarters and came out shortly after. ”Let’s go. We should hurry back for our meal, and then you’ll leave with me.”

He did have other matters to attend to, but he couldn’t rest easy with Yunyi returning alone. With him there, he could manage things if any issues arose.

On the way back, Yunyi even made a detour to the Zhiqing Point to notify Ye Wenhui.

Ye Wenhui immediately went inside to retrieve a letter and handed it to Yunyi. ”I was thinking of calling home tomorrow and then mailing this letter to explain things in detail. But since you’re heading back, I won’t make the call. Please take this letter to my family for me.”

Yunyi actually didn’t want to take it, as she hadn’t planned to visit the Ye Family on this trip.

But Ye Wenhui naturally had her own reasons. She knew Yunyi was going to meet these relatives but was reluctant to visit the Ye Family home. Her eldest uncle would undoubtedly disapprove of Yunyi not visiting them. However, Wenhui worried that if she voiced any objection, Yunyi might refuse to meet the relatives at all. Thus, she had outwardly agreed to Yunyi’s intentions. Having Yunyi carry the letter back was a perfect opportunity to create some contact between her and the Ye Family.

In the end, Yunyi took the letter, figuring she could just find someone to deliver it later.

Back at their small courtyard, the meal had just been reheated. After they finished eating, Huo Jingrui cleared the dishes while Yunyi went to the clinic out front to ask Kong Jiaqiao to inform Doctor Qiu about her leave.

After packing a change of clothes, Yunyi accompanied Huo Jingrui as they hurried to the county town.

As they needed to travel to the city for the train, Huo Jingrui first went back to the machinery factory to arrange his work matters. Afterwards, he found a friend to drive them to the city station.
