Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 393: Chapter 393 I Have to Be Honest with You About Something

As she was thinking, she heard Huo Jingrui ask, ”What are you thinking about?”

Yunyi turned her head to look at him. ”Nothing much, just some trivial matters.”

Huo Jingrui could tell the young girl had something on her mind, but for some reason, she was unwilling to share it with him.

Yunyi turned her head to face Huo Jingrui. When will this guy start to think of me?

She remembered something he had mentioned before. ”So, have you settled in at the machinery factory now?”

When Huo Jingrui heard her question, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. ”Mhm.”

He then cleared his throat and said, ”I have to be honest with you about something.”

Yunyi frowned slightly. ”What is it?”

Huo Jingrui raised his hand to touch his nose.

Yunyi saw his gesture. Typical. Some habits never change. ”Go ahead, what is it?”

Huo Jingrui pulled the car over to the side of the road before saying seriously, ”When I tell you, you’re not allowed to get angry.”

Yunyi, seeing his solemn expression, couldn’t help but worry. Has he made some mistake?

She heard him say cautiously, ”Before I left Beijing, I filed a romance report with my superiors.”

He paused for a moment, observing the changes in Yunyi’s expression.

Yunyi was somewhat puzzled. ”What? It wasn’t approved?”

He had mentioned this to Yunyi before when he left Hua’an Farm Reclamation, and she had agreed to it then.

Huo Jingrui shook his head. ”No, it’s been approved.”

Yunyi’s mind raced. ”You didn’t do something wrong behind my back, did you?”

Huo Jingrui raised his hand and gave Yunyi a gentle flick on the forehead—not using much force, of course. ”What nonsense are you thinking?”

Yunyi covered her smarting forehead. ”Well, can you blame me? If you have something to say, just say it. When you hem and haw like that, of course I’m going to jump to conclusions.”

Huo Jingrui locked eyes with Yunyi and blurted out, ”I filed a marriage application, and it’s already been approved.”

After speaking, he watched Yunyi nervously, terrified she might get angry.

Yunyi was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered. He’s the man I’ve chosen, after all. Still, I can’t let him off so easily. She feigned anger. ”You’ve got some nerve! How dare you make such a big decision on your own? Did you even ask for my consent?”

Huo Jingrui reached out and grabbed Yunyi’s arm. ”I know I was wrong about this, but you know I came here on a mission. I want you to appear openly as my fiancée.”

Of course, I have my own reasons. I don’t know how long this mission will take, and I don’t want any uncontrollable factors cropping up. It was only natural to file the report in advance to avoid any trouble later. As long as she agrees, I can whisk her away to be mine at any time.

A thought seemed to strike him, and he quickly added, ”Don’t worry. From now on, whatever it is, I’ll get your consent before doing anything. I definitely won’t make decisions on my own again.”

Seeing how terrified he looked that she wouldn’t forgive him, Yunyi was amused and struggled to suppress her laughter. ”You said it yourself. If you do it again...”

Before Yunyi could finish, Huo Jingrui hurriedly interjected, ”Don’t worry, this is the only time. From now on, you’ll have the final say in all our family matters, big or small.”

Yunyi gave him a look that clearly said, You know what’s good for you. ”Alright then. We’ll see how you behave.”

Huo Jingrui breathed a sigh of relief and kept grinning foolishly at Yunyi, utterly content that he’d gotten his wish.

Yunyi could hardly look at him. ”Alright, get driving. It looks like it’s going to snow. We don’t want to get snowed in and stuck in the county.”

The car got back on the road. Huo Jingrui smiled at Yunyi. ”If we can’t make it back, you can stay at my place. I’ve already had someone tidy up the apartment assigned by my unit. Later, you can see if anything’s missing, and I’ll add whatever you need.”
