Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 187: Chapter 187 Son, Mom Has Something to Tell You

Seeing the clay pot, usually used for simmering soup, on the stove, Jiang Jingya quickly asked, ”Auntie Zhang, what’s simmering on the stove?”

Auntie Zhang had obviously heard the conversation outside. ”I just started simmering some ribs. Later, I’ll add more goji berries and Hongzao. That’s perfect for Jingrui to drink. It not only replenishes physical strength but also relieves fatigue.”

That was exactly what Jiang Jingya had in mind. Since it was already stewing, it wasn’t appropriate to change to something else. ”Auntie Zhang, could you please prepare a bowl of noodles for Jingrui first so he can line his stomach?”

Auntie Zhang replied with a smile, ”There’s still a small bowl of beef sauce left from lunch. I’ll get the water boiling and cook the noodles right away.”

After arranging everything, Jiang Jingya left the kitchen. She thought about the matter concerning the Wei Family girl and decided she still needed to mention it to her son to prevent any awkward situations later.

Huo Jingrui was quick. By the time Auntie Zhang had finished cooking the noodles, he had already freshened up.

Jiang Jingya went upstairs and knocked on his door. ”Son, the noodles are ready. Are you all cleaned up?”

Huo Jingrui put away the towel he was using to dry his hair before opening the door. ”Let’s go.”

Jiang Jingya sighed inwardly as she looked at her handsome son. ”Son, Mom has something to tell you.”

Huo Jingrui’s face was full of wariness. ”If this is about setting me up with someone, then stop right there. I’m not interested, and I don’t have time.”

Jiang Jingya was so annoyed she swatted at him. ”With that attitude of yours, I don’t even want to tell you! You’ll see who ends up being troubled. Honestly, it’s like my good intentions are taken for donkey’s liver and lungs.”

Huo Jingrui detected the hidden meaning in her words. ”Mom, it’s all my fault. Please, tell me. I’m listening.”

Just then, Auntie Zhang brought out the noodles. ”Perfect timing! There’s still a small bowl of the beef sauce from lunch. Have a taste.”

Jiang Jingya saw her son’s chapped lips and felt a pang of heartache. ”Auntie Zhang, please give him a bowl of the noodle broth as well.”

After speaking, she looked at Huo Jingrui. ”You’re really fortunate. This beef is hard to come by, and you even managed to get some.”

Huo Jingrui didn’t respond, focusing intently on eating his noodles, waiting for what his mom would say next.

Jiang Jingya glared at her son again in annoyance. ”With your temperament, I don’t know when I’ll ever get to hold a grandchild. You don’t like the girls who like you, and who knows where the one you might like even is? What terrible luck I have!”

As soon as Huo Jingrui heard his mother starting on that topic again, he said, ”Mom, I have to return to my unit soon. Are you sure you want to waste time like this?”

Jiang Jingya couldn’t keep up the act any longer. ”I know you find me annoying. But if you’d just listened, found a nice girl, and settled down sooner, would I need to bother you like this every day?”

Huo Jingrui swallowed the last mouthful of noodles. ”Get to the point, Mom. I’m running out of time.”

Jiang Jingya looked at her son with a resentful expression. This son is really impossible. ”Pan Huixin has started working at the Military District Hospital. She’s clearly there for you. If you’re not interested in her, keep your distance. That girl is very single-minded; be careful not to fall into her trap.”

Actually, the members of the Pan family are quite decent. It’s just that girl who is incredibly stubborn. Over time, it can become rather tiresome.

Huo Jingrui heard this and said, ”Whatever decisions she makes are her business. They have nothing to do with me.”

He got up and took his bowl to the kitchen. ”I’m heading back to my unit now. You don’t need to worry about this. There’s absolutely no chance between her and me.”

With that, he strode out the door.

Everyone in the compound said the members of the Pan family were nice, but not all of them were actually good people, especially the Pan family women. If I hadn’t accidentally witnessed certain things myself, I might hold the same opinion as everyone else.

However, out of respect for Mr. Pan’s reputation, I’ve never mentioned these incidents to anyone, not even my own mother.

Mainly because those incidents were truly too embarrassing to speak of.
