The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 567 - 296: The Minotaur Phenomenon in the Police Station
After Jiang Shu had sent the message, Wolf’s voice call request came through.

”Hello?” Jiang Shu didn’t think too much, and answered the call directly.

”Do you want to come with me to the Thirteen District? Then what about your job here? Are you not being a magician anymore?” A string of questions came from the other end of the phone.

”Did you not understand what I meant?” Jiang Shu fished a pie out of the hot oil, then said in a calm tone, ”If you need help in the Thirteen District, I’ll come to help you; if not, I’ll just keep busy with my own things, just like now. Hasn’t the police station always been fine without having to call me?”

”Uh, okay.” Wolf acknowledged, though his tone shifted slightly, ”The police station doesn’t call you because I’ve been handling things, regular cases, I can solve them myself. But the performance is still credited to both of us, I want to see if I can get you a permanent position by the end of the year.”

”I see, well, thanks for that.” It was only after Wolf’s remark that Jiang Shu realized why the police station hadn’t been contacting him for duties lately, and he was somewhat touched by Wolf’s practice of sharing the credit.

However, another thought struck him, so he asked back, ”About getting a permanent position... would there be other implications? Like, turning into a mutant?”

Wolf shook his head, ”Whether or not you turn into a mutant has nothing to do with you joining the police station, it mainly has to do with your entry value.”

”You could calculate the entry value of your magician’s skills. Generally speaking, if you convert entries by level into entry value, unless the entry values for activities outside your main occupation account for more than a third, there’s no possibility of becoming a mutant. If it’s more than a third but less than half, then you should be a bit cautious,” Wolf explained, and then thought for a moment, ”In your case... considering the level of your performances, the entry value for your magician skills must be exceptionally high, so the criminal investigation entry value is completely negligible.”

”Oh,” Jiang Shu didn’t say much more.

If he remembered correctly, he only had one white entry in criminal investigation, whereas for magician skills, he had two golden bases with a bunch of blue and purple.

In fact, his entry values in physics were much higher than those in criminal investigations.

So there was absolutely nothing to worry about.

”Still, are you sure you want to take this temporary police chief role?” Jiang Shu still decided to remind Wolf, ”What if they just want you to stabilize the situation in the Thirteen District and then appoint someone pre-decided to take your place?”

It was an obvious matter; a district police chief wielded significant power, and after Tang Hexun had stepped down, it would naturally attract covetousness from others, involving many entangled interests.

In other words, there was only one position, and the people inside the Thirteen District were short themselves, how could it be Wolf’s turn?

Even if Wolf often visited the Thirteen District on duty, and even if he was already a familiar face to the officers at the Thirteen District Police Station, it would still not suffice.

”Ha ha, what of it?” Wolf displayed a high level of awareness, ”I didn’t join the police to climb ranks or make fortune. The situation in the Thirteen District is rather grim now, and I can stabilize and calm the chaos, so that’s why I’m heading there.”

He said with a smile, ”Besides, if I wanted to become a police chief, would I need to go to the Thirteen District? Charles has already made it clear to me that he intends to groom me and recommend me to be the next police chief of the Seventh District.”

”Since you have it figured out, then I won’t say much.” Jiang Shu shrugged, not wishing to elaborate.

He had thought that Wolf was unaware of the higher-ups’ underlying intentions, but it seemed now that Wolf had simply transcended those concerns.

Wolf had shed concerns for those honors and power; he just wanted to do something for the ordinary people of the Thirteen District.

”Mhm.” Wolf acknowledged, ”Anyway, I’m already headed to the Thirteen District now, it’s just a temporary role as police chief, and there’s no official induction ceremony, I need to start working as quickly as possible, the sooner I get adjusted, the sooner I can maintain the order in the current situation of the Thirteen District.”
