The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 484 - 265: Hughes’s Story_3
Chapter 484: Chapter 265: Hughes’s Story_3Just like this.

Every morning was like this.

Hughes knew that on the other end of the phone was the company’s artificial intelligence ”Xiao Ke.”

It was a low-end AI, lacking autonomous consciousness, but it was sufficiently adequate as a tool for the company.

He turned on the light, and the cold white light once again filled the room as he walked out and headed toward the bathroom.

Next, he had thirty minutes to wash up and eat.

By eight-thirty, he was supposed to be sitting in front of his workstation, working.

Otherwise, he would receive another call from the company, and this time, it wouldn’t be Xiao Ke calling, but the ”Public Relations Department.”

Thinking of that bunch of sanctimonious thugs, Hughes couldn’t help but shudder again.

Just showing a will to resist would make him a constant target of the Public Relations Department’s scum; they would insult and torment him, freely hitting and scolding.

Liu Sheng had died like that.

Standing in front of the washstand, he forcefully controlled his facial expressions to appear more natural.

After Liu Sheng’s death, he had tried to report it, but he was intercepted by the Public Relations Department on the way, and thus he had become a ”target for special attention.”

Absolutely, he must not show any dissatisfaction in front of the cameras.

His gaze fell on a note next to the mirror, filled with scribbles that looked like hastily drawn messy symbols.

But among these rough scribbles, Hughes precisely found a few letters and numbers.

F-R-A-C-T.1043.

That URL was the contact method for the Rift, and by sending his experiences to them, he might be able to escape the company.

Maybe... not likely.

Though he had an entire night, he still hadn’t decided what he should do.

Hughes scratched his head, only feeling that his situation was somewhat complicated.

He had found a contact method for the Rift, and all he needed to do was send everything he had endured recently; however, unexpectedly, the police had approached him, wanting to use him to lure out the Rift.

Although the police had promised to clear his name, he was still uneasy.

Now, he dared not trust anyone.

What if the police were actually disguised as the Public Relations Department, testing his loyalty?

He knew very well that the Public Relations Department loved engaging in such malicious acts. If it really came to that, him daring to expose information to the Rift would surely lead to his death.

What if the police also couldn’t handle the company? It was said that the chairman had connections everywhere.

He shuddered at the thought of the company discovering his whistleblowing.

Death might be the best outcome.

But...

If he continued to stay at this company, what difference would there be from death?

He thought of Liu Sheng’s fate and felt chills down his spine.

Thus, Hughes resolutely sat on the toilet; he knew that here and the shower were the only places without cameras.

Then he entered that series of URL, sending the text he had previously edited and stored in his watch.

As per the agreed time with the police, all he had to do was seek help from the Rift this morning.

Whether it was the Rift or the police, as long as one could help him escape the company, that would suffice.

With that hope, he stood up from the toilet.

Though he harbored a seemingly impractical hope, he still had to go to work today.

At that moment, in a certain alley of Thirteen District, a man looked at his watch.

He was cloaked in a long cape, leaning against a wall.

The cape couldn’t hide his flashy black and red Armor, with iron wings puffed on his back.

Suddenly, he finally received the information he had been waiting for, and then he merged back into the darkness.
