Chapter 138: Chapter 129: Foreshadowing! Do you understand foreshadowing? At two in the afternoon, the judicial second trial of Garcia’s case commenced.

Unlike last time, this time there were only a handful of spectators watching, evidently, the renowned gangster Garcia had met his premature demise, and his subordinates, having divided his assets, had nothing left for him but remembrance.

Besides that, Jiang Shu noticed a young couple among the back rows of the spectator seats, who seemed to be just onlookers.

Spectators at a courtroom?

...

He momentarily didn’t know what to critique—could there really be couples who chose the courtroom as their dating spot?

To ensure the transparency of the judicial process, some non-classified cases should be publicly tried according to law.

However, to be fair, being an audience member in the courtroom is not only comfortable with air conditioning and free internet access without any miscellaneous charges, but more importantly, it cultivates legal awareness between both parties, laying the groundwork for a happy married life in the future...

Or possibly for gaining more benefits when getting a divorce.

Cough cough.

”Next, the defendant will present his defense,” the judge announced from the bench, interrupting Jiang Shu’s random musings.

The plaintiff was dead, so Garcia’s son acted as the plaintiff for the defense.

Jiang Shu spoke in accordance with the defense script provided by Attorney Luo, ”The defendant disagrees with the plaintiff’s claims; the death of the victim Garcia is unrelated to me.”

The defense segment ended swiftly, and after the plaintiff presented evidence, the second judicial trial moved into the debate phase between both parties.

Simply put, it was the attorneys’ turn to take the stage.

Hence, for the following time, Jiang Shu stood at the defendant’s booth, still silent, but unlike last time, this time he truly had nothing to say.

Attorney Luo spoke at length, starting with the motive, refuting each piece of evidence used for the previous sentencing, and invalidating three or four key pieces with his eloquence.

”The defendant’s side has rejected our evidence, but since the defendant confessed without denial in the first judicial trial, can we assume that these refuted video evidences are subsequently forged? If not, why were they not used at that time?” the plaintiff lawyer finally played this card.

”Baseless,” Attorney Luo shook his head, ”These video evidences have been authenticated by technicians from the Thirteen District Police Station, here’s the authentication information for the judge to review.”

After inspecting the authentication, the judge immediately declared the evidence valid.

What followed were mere procedural issues; the second judicial trial ended smoothly, all according to Jiang Shu’s plan.

The shackles came off, he saw daylight again, and his mood lightened considerably.

Outside the courtroom, Jiang Shu glanced in the direction of the Special Prison, where he had spent an interesting seven days.

He had seen Ruo Ma there and also met an intriguing... uh, what exactly was Clo?

A rebel?

Or a rebel that knew too many secrets.

This wasn’t the Special Prison anymore, outside its walls, as long as he could find Clo, he could unearth Clo’s secrets.

To perform a grand Spirit Magic show and exploit the loophole in the Mind Reading Ability, it shouldn’t be difficult.

Thus, the current priority was...

To find Clo in Lonely City.

Though it might be challenging, it was worth a try. If not successful, he could only wait for Clo to seal his own fate. He was curious to see what Clo’s so-called experiments were about.

He hoped they would be interesting at least.

He glanced at Wolf standing nearby, and after finally retrieving his wristwatch, he input a line of text for the Tablet Spirits to see: ”Check if you can hack into the Special Prison’s surveillance or the nearby surveillance, find footage from the past few days, look for any suspicious vehicles, your Ruo Ma might be in there.”

Well, even if Ruo Ma had said she would return after finishing her business, it probably wouldn’t hurt to look for her, right?

Just considering a former roommate, ensuring her safety shouldn’t be an issue, should it?

However, although he said that, Jiang Shu knew full well, Ruo Ma, a hacker—no, thinking about it now, she seemed more like a techie of sorts.

Anyway, she would have thought to handle the surveillance.
