The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Hearing both of them say this, Shen Xuwan sent the electronic version of the contract to her lawyer friend and then waited quietly for a reply.

”Jiang Shu, Sister Mei has something to ask you.” Sister Mei suddenly spoke up, and even with her experience, she felt somewhat embarrassed about what she was about to say.

”Sister Mei, please tell me,” Jiang Shu said, all ears.

”To be frank, you probably have an understanding of our theater’s situation,” Sister Mei began.

”...What are you referring to?” Jiang Shu didn’t quite understand.

”In Lonely City’s Entertainment Series, the trend is the rise of the Screen System and the decline of theaters. Black Currant Theater, unlike other theaters that have a rich cultural heritage, has never really had a star to call its own, so our number of die-hard fans is quite small, and we’re barely scraping by year-round,” Sister Mei explained, feeling helpless. She had been working hard, personally tending to everything, but under the overwhelming trend of theater decline, it was tough to turn the tide.

”Uh-huh, I’m aware of that,” Jiang Shu nodded.

Sister Mei continued, ”This time, your magic show netted a profit of around four million.”

”Four million? I remember the average ticket price being around two hundred, right?” Jiang Shu was puzzled. How could net profit end up being so high after adding the other costs?

”There are also series of advertising fees and broadcast rights fees,” Sister Mei said with a smile. ”In any case, this magic show’s economic benefits were much higher than you might have imagined. As for your share, I mentioned previously that you would get about a million.”

”Hmm?” Jiang Shu frowned slightly, remembering what Sister Mei had mentioned before...

Wasn’t it a quarter of the ticket sales? That should only be about a hundred and fifty thousand.

However, he didn’t speak up and just kept listening to Sister Mei.

”But, our theater is going through another round of renovations soon, and it’s tough to spare money from other sources...” Sister Mei went on. ”What I mean is, could you use this one million to help with the renovations? In return, you would own about five percent of the theater.”

”However, you’d need to sign an additional clause with the theater,” she added, producing another contract. ”After your current residency contract expires, if you want to continue performing magic at the theater under similar salary conditions, you would need to give Black Currant first consideration, with not more than a five percent variance.”

”Take a stake in ownership?” Jiang Shu repeated, pondering it for a moment before agreeing, ”Of course, I can.”

B: Take a stake in ownership? In ownership of who?

C: ???

D: My doubts of your charioteering are profound, but alas, without evidence to present to the crowd, I must endure the grinding wheel upon my face, which pains me greatly.

Taking a stake in Black Currant was undoubtedly all gain and no harm for him. Sister Mei must have intentionally raised his share to lure him into investing, right?

One million for a five percent stake, even for Black Currant as it is now, that’s a steal.

So, Sister Mei’s idea was quite clear, to firmly tie him and even Shen Xuwan to Black Currant Theater’s chariot through this investment.

In the theater system of Lonely City’s Entertainment Series, contracts tended to be short-term.

In other words, Sister Mei had a high opinion of him and was afraid that another theater would poach him once his contract expired.

Was she willing to make such a bold bet after just two magic performances?

Jiang Shu looked at Sister Mei, her wisdom of the years hidden in the weathered lines around her eyes—she was more decisive than some men.

Given the situation, encountering an open-minded director ready to promote him, he would naturally not refuse Sister Mei’s kind offer—it was a win-win.

”Alright, thank you for your help,” Sister Mei said with a broad smile.

”Uh-huh, I have another three million. How about I lend that to the theater as well, and you give me an additional fifteen percent ownership?” Jiang Shu said with a mischievous grin, asking for the moon.

”This...” Sister Mei refused on the spot, still with a smile, ”Just the million is enough, I appreciate your help.”

So that’s how it was.

Jiang Shu tested the waters and chuckled to himself.

So now, am I a major shareholder of Black Currant?
