Longevity Reward Redemption: The Immortal Clan Starts with Farmers

53: If a ruler and his subjects fail each other, trouble will come knocking!Chen Changsheng’s expression was somewhat dazed. Had he casually picked up a crippled assassin who turned out to be the strongest Martial Artist below the Innate realm?

Aside from Howling Heaven, no one in the Chen family could steadily defeat Steamed Bun!

Chen Changsheng felt a secret wariness in his heart. He needed capable hands, but the other party had to be under his control. Steamed Bun was too strong; if he ever turned, the Chen family would certainly Face a great disaster!

Just as Chen Changsheng’s thoughts were churning, Steamed Bun actually made a Move that he hadn’t expected.

Steamed Bun completely disregarded the noble status of a Blood Refining Martial Artist and knelt directly on one knee. His tone was cold but extremely sincere as he said:

”I was a man waiting for death, and I’ve been given a new life entirely through your treatment, Sir. If you do not despise me, I am willing to take you as my Master. Whatever your orders, I will obey without question!”

”If I violate this oath, may ten thousand swords pierce my heart, may my Soul Fly Away and Spirit Scattering, and may I never enter Reincarnation!”

Listening to Steamed Bun’s sonorous and powerful oath, Chen Changsheng couldn’t help but feel conflicted. After learning that Steamed Bun was a Blood Refining expert, he no longer intended to take the other party as a subordinate; he had thought it would be enough to just establish a good relationship.

But he hadn’t expected Steamed Bun to be such a stubborn man. He actually still remembered the promise made back in the old ancestral hall!

Whether to accept him or not, Chen Changsheng couldn’t help but hesitate. At this moment, he suddenly thought of Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, from his previous life. He wasn’t as wise as Zhang Liang, nor as good at leading troops as Han Xin, yet he still received their loyalty unto death!

Although he wasn’t as charismatic as that human-shaped incubus, he wasn’t a mediocre person without the capacity to tolerate others!

Thinking of this, Chen Changsheng made a decision. He walked up to Steamed Bun, supported his arms, helped him up, and said with a serious expression:

”As long as you do not fail me, I, Chen Changsheng, will never fail Steamed Bun for the rest of my life!”

A flicker of emotion flashed in Steamed Bun’s eyes. He stood up, cupped his hands toward Chen Changsheng, and said in a low voice:

”My Lord!”

Steamed Bun was not a man of many words; he preferred to let his actions speak. At this moment, he made no further promises, only respectfully calling him ’My Lord’ because he had already sworn his oath earlier!

He was not one to keep promises on his lips; he preferred to keep them in his heart. Once he agreed, he would do it!

One call of ’My Lord,’ a pair of ruler and subject. Today’s promise would need the test of time to be fulfilled!

”Let’s go, Steamed Bun. We’ll go see how the little brats are learning. You were an assassin before; do you know about secret codes, meeting signals, and such?”

A smile appeared at the corners of Chen Changsheng’s mouth. This was the first time someone had pledged loyalty to him, which made him feel quite good. The taste of it was far beyond what hiring a few long-term laborers could compare to.

”I do. I will teach them!”

Chen Changsheng was quite surprised; he hadn’t expected Steamed Bun to be so versatile. But this was even better. With the help of an assassin Great Master with maxed-out combat experience like Steamed Bun, the little brats would surely be trained even better!

”Foster Father!”

As Chen Changsheng walked from the backyard to the front of the medicine hall, he saw Zhao Song leading several little brats in cleaning. Seeing Chen Changsheng’s arrival, they hurriedly greeted him.

”Zhao Song, how many characters have you all learned today?”

Chen Changsheng walked over to the reclining chair, sat down, took a comfortable sip of jasmine tea, and called Zhao Song over to ask.

Chen Changsheng found Zhao Song to be incredibly useful. He was serious and responsible in his work, yet his adherence to rules wasn’t rigid. He was practically a natural-born manager.

”Foster Father, those who had a foundation before and learned well have already mastered several hundred characters. Those who learn slower can also read and write about a hundred!”
