All Gods: Starting with Two Families

Chapter 124 Demon Clan Invitation”What about those outside...” Pale Feather gave a bitter smile.

”They were once Yao Race, too. Just like us.”

”But after staying in this vessel for too long, their spirituality slowly drains away. First, they lose the ability to Cultivate, then the ability to speak, and finally, even the ability to think.”

”The moment they completely lose their spirituality, they degenerate into ordinary beasts.”

”Those on the outer rim are the Yao Race that have already degenerated or are currently in the process of doing so.”

Zhou Zheng fell silent.

He finally understood where that sense of dissonance he felt upon entering came from.

Those creatures were not ordinary beasts. They once had intelligence. They once could think. They once knew who they were.

And then, bit by bit, they lost it all.

Becoming what they are now.

This is not imprisonment. This is slow deprivation. It is crueler than killing them.

”Then what about you?” he asked.

Pale Feather pointed to the feather crest on his head, then gestured toward the direction outside the window.

”We are a bit luckier. Being closer to the inner circle, we can share some of the spirituality from the Moon Flow Spring. But it is merely hanging on by a thread. In another few tens of thousands of years, we too will become like those things outside.”

”Moon Flow Spring?”

”It is the only source of spirituality in this vessel,” Pale Feather explained.

”It gushes forth spirituality once every thousand years. That spirituality is our only hope for maintaining our intelligence. But the amount of spring water is decreasing, and what we can get is becoming less and less.”

He stared at Zhou Zheng, a glimmer of light suddenly igniting in his eyes.

”But you have come. Honored guest, you have come. You possess the Kunpeng Bloodline within you. That is the Bloodline of our Progenitor.”

Zhou Zheng frowned: ”Kunpeng?”

”Kunpeng is the Progenitor of our Scale Clan and Feather Clan,” Pale Feather’s voice deepened. ”It can transform into a Peng, soaring through the Nine Heavens; it can transform into a Kun, swimming through the Nine Abysses. It is the only supreme existence capable of governing both the Feather and Scale Clans simultaneously.”

”We are all its descendants.”

Zhou Zheng was silent for a moment: ”Then how did you end up here?”

Pale Feather’s smile turned bitter.

”Because Kunpeng committed a grave error.”

”It stole something it shouldn’t have. No one knows what was stolen. But the owner of that item was furious and wanted to eradicate the entire Scale and Feather clans. Later, I don’t know who interceded, so it was changed to imprisonment.”

Pale Feather gave a bitter smile. ”And we are its descendants.”

Zhou Zheng did not speak.

”But this vessel,” Pale Feather continued, ”the person who designed it left a backdoor.”

”Only someone possessing the purest Progenitor Bloodline can activate that backdoor.”

”We descendants have long had thin Bloodlines; there was simply no hope. So for all these years, we could only wait, waiting for a miracle.”

He stood up and bowed deeply.

”And then you arrived! Honored guest, you have arrived with the Progenitor’s Bloodline!”

”As long as you go to the Moon Flow Spring and leave a wisp of your Divine Thought at the spring’s eye, that backdoor will be activated. At that time, the restrictions of this gap will be lifted, and all of us will be able to leave with you!”

After he finished speaking, everyone present looked at Zhou Zheng. Their eyes held the same thing—longing, anticipation, and a hint of... madness that Zhou Zheng could not quite describe.

Zhou Zheng looked at Pale Feather, looked at the clansmen of the Feather and Scale Clans, and looked at the expressions on their faces, a mixture of hope and despair.

”Fine,” he said, ”I will go.”

Pale Feather suddenly raised his head, an expression of disbelief on his face. He looked at the clansmen, who were also stunned, and then—

It erupted in an uproar.

”He agreed!”

”We can get out!”

”We can really get out!”

Some laughed, some cried, some embraced one another.

No one cared that the jar of wine, which had been so difficult to dig up, had been knocked over. A young member of the Scale Clan knelt on the ground, forehead pressed to the floor, shoulders heaving, unable to tell if they were crying or laughing.
