Dream Capture: I Can See Through All Secrets!

18: 18. Dinner at Teacher Zhou’s HouseIt was already evening when they left the police station. Zhou Wenmei patted Lu Feng on the shoulder and said, ”You must be hungry. Teacher Zhou will treat you to dinner.”

Lu Feng was about to refuse, but his stomach uncooperatively rumbled.

Zhou Wenmei smiled, ”Let’s go. You can’t refuse.”

Without further ado, she led Lu Feng towards her home.

Lu Feng had been to Teacher Zhou’s house before, and he thought he could use the opportunity to ask her about choosing a major, so he agreed.

The neighborhood where Zhou Wenmei lived was not far from there. Ten minutes later, the two stood at Zhou Wenmei’s doorstep.

Pushing open the door, Zhou Wenmei’s husband, Lin Shaohui, was pacing in the living room, holding their five-month-old child. He looked up, saw Lu Feng behind her, and his eyes lit up. He said, ”Xiao Lu is here too?”

Lu Feng politely said, ”Hello, Uncle Lin.”

Lin Shaohui playfully chided Zhou Wenmei, ”Wife, you didn’t tell me we had a guest. I’ll go buy a few more hot dishes. Speaking of which, Xiao Lu also finished his college entrance exam today, right? We should celebrate properly.”

Zhou Wenmei said, dumbfounded, ”So much has happened today, I was so busy I forgot. How about this, I’ll go buy them. Xiao Lu is a big hero today, we definitely need to celebrate!”

Lu Feng saw them about to put on their shoes to leave and quickly said, ”No need, Teacher Zhou. How about this, you two have always treated me before, so this time, I’ll cook.”

Zhou Wenmei was surprised, ”You can cook?”

Lu Feng nodded, telling a small lie, ”My dad used to run a restaurant, so I’m bound to know how to cook from being around it.”

”Still no. Today you had your college entrance exam and you fell and got hurt. How can I let you cook? I’ll do it.”

”I’m fine, Teacher Zhou.”

The couple exchanged glances, their interest piqued, and said, ”Alright then, this time we’ll try your cooking.”

Seeing the baby staring at him blankly, Lu Feng couldn’t resist reaching out to gently touch her chubby cheek, smiling, ”Little one, you’ll have some too. Big brother will make you some baby food.”

The baby, as if understanding, suddenly started waving her arms and legs, with clear drool trickling from her mouth.

Lu Feng opened the refrigerator; there were plenty of ingredients inside. Just as he took out a few items, he saw Zhou Wenmei walk over and say, ”Xiao Lu, how about I help you?”

”No need, Teacher Zhou. You two go watch TV in the living room. I’ll be done in a bit.”

Closing the kitchen’s sliding door, Lu Feng tied on an apron and began preparing the dishes.

Zhou Wenmei and Lin Shaohui stood at the doorway, watching curiously, and then their eyes gradually widened.

They were stunned!

They saw Lu Feng’s movements flow like water. Holding a potato, with swift cuts, ”da da da,” the potato was quickly sliced into uniform shreds, each one as if measured with a ruler.

The tender pork belly, after stir-frying, was placed in a pressure cooker to braise until it changed color, and the amber, viscous sauce bubbled enticingly.

After pan-frying, the crucian carp was added to boiling water, quickly turning white with a sizzling sound. As tofu and fried eggs were added, a rich aroma filled the air.

Stir-frying the potato shreds over high heat, adding seasonings and green pepper shreds—though these steps were the same, Lu Feng’s movements were simply so pleasing to the eye.

Finally, lifting the lid of the steamer, he sprinkled green onions over the tempting steamed spare ribs with black bean sauce, and dinner was complete.

An expert’s touch reveals all.

The couple usually cooked, so they understood how impressive Lu Feng’s skill was.

Sometimes, one person cooking two dishes at once could be a stretch, but Lu Feng, alone, cooked four dishes simultaneously and still managed with ease.

”This... your student’s cooking is comparable to a restaurant’s head chef, isn’t it?” Lin Shaohui said, wide-mouthed and shocked.

”I had no idea he was so amazing!” Zhou Wenmei was even more bewildered.

In just over twenty minutes, four dishes were plated and on the table. The couple then snapped out of their daze and stiffly followed Lu Feng to their seats.

Looking at the four dishes on the dining table, the braised pork was shiny and tempting, the potato shreds were distinct, the steamed spare ribs were coated in glistening black bean sauce, and golden fried eggs floated on the fish soup.

Each dish was perfect in color, aroma, and taste, seemingly homemade but far from ordinary.
