Be Gentle, My Master

Baili Xia took a gentle breath, closed her eyes, and relaxed into his embrace, finally feeling at peace.

“Uncle, I want to rest some more.”

Resting in his arms, nestled in his warm breath, one could feel utterly content.

Mu Xiaojiu massaged her arm, easing any potentially blocked veins.

Looking at the scars on her wrist, which were fading slowly, his eyes showed pity and pain.

Even as the wounds healed, they were still visibly marked.

Just the thought of the pain she endured made his heart feel torn yet again.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he suddenly sighed softly.

Baili Xia opened her eyes a bit, not quite understanding what he was referring to.

But at that moment, she didn’t know if it was from weakness or increasing weariness, she started to feel sleepy again.

Waves of drowsiness hit her, preventing her from focusing enough to listen to what he was saying.

Mu Xiaojiu didn’t say more, just held her gently, letting her continue to sleep peacefully.

That sleep was deep and heavy, lasting another two days.

During those two days, aside from the old man who came to see Baili Xia, Mu Xiaoyao and Mu Lingchuan also glanced at her a few times.

Other people, it seemed, were all turned away by Uncle.

Of course, this didn’t include Bei Tianyou, who was always applying medicine to her, and Nangong Xu, who was treating her continually.

But come to think of it, Nangong Xu seemed to only examine her body each time he came, either hanging an IV or performing other treatments.

From start to finish, he didn’t say a word; as soon as he was done, he would leave immediately, never staying in the room a step longer.

It wasn’t a big deal that he didn’t speak, but in a sort of haze, it seemed his complexion was getting worse by the day, she couldn’t tell if he was sick or something else?

As for Bei Tianyou, he had spent quite a bit of time here over the last few days.

And Uncle, after her condition had completely stabilized, went back to the company today.

She didn’t know what Ye Hua said to him, but it seemed quite urgent, and after a moment of hesitation, he left.

Then, she fell into another deep sleep…

As the sunset in the west, the curtains of the floor-to-ceiling windows were drawn back, and the person who had stayed in the room for several days and nights finally stepped into the sunlight for the first time.

“It’s okay to sunbathe now, isn’t it?” she stretched languidly, gazing at the blood-red sun dipping towards the horizon, and took a deep breath.

“It’s fine, stay in the sun a bit longer,” Bei Tianyou said from behind her, leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window.

Baili Xia turned around and smiled at him, “Brother You, you seem to have stayed here for quite a while, when will you return to Bei Miao?”

“What? You want to send me away?” Bei Tianyou looked at her steadily, but didn’t seem upset.

“Your Uncle has taken care of many things for me.

Now, I’m quite free and not in a rush to go back.”

“Uncle?” Baili Xia was a bit surprised.

He nodded, “As payment for the medicine I brought you, lately, your Uncle is probably going to be very, very busy.”

Baili Xia blinked, although not very clear about these matters of the adults.

But if it was something that could keep Uncle so busy, it must be no small matter.

“To be able to call you Brother You, even quibbling over a little medicine,” she pouted slightly, a bit grieved.

A hint of pleasure twinkled in Bei Tianyou’s eyes, “I’m not nitpicking with you, however, your Uncle said he doesn’t like being in debt to anyone, understand?”

She said nothing, but felt a sweet warmth inside, an indescribable touch of emotion.

Was Uncle…

truly considering her as one of his own, taking all her responsibilities onto himself?

To disguise her unease, she changed the subject, “My master… Mr. Nangong, why didn’t I see him come by today?”
