Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 586: Chapter 192: Letters Across Time_3

Dumbledore did not remove the cloth covering the body; Transfiguration Magic or Polyjuice Potion could completely change all physical features, but one thing remains unchanged.

The old man extended his slender fingers and pulled up the pant leg of the hospital gown slightly.

On the thin and worn ankle of the corpse, there was a pair of iron rings, as thick as fingers, used by Aurors to prevent prisoners from escaping.

After a prolonged silence, the old man covered the corpse back with the white cloth and asked, ”Where is the person he entrusted to your care?”

”That person?” The doctor was momentarily confused by the term before saying, ”The lady is recovering well; although she hasn’t regained her memory, she has recovered her ability to take care of herself. Her condition isn’t suitable to stay cooped up inside, so I have settled her at my father’s farm.”

The doctor took leave from the sanatorium and drove Vid and Dumbledore to the farm.

Soon, Vid saw Carrel’s real mother, Madam Anne Johnson.

She was wearing a loose and simple blue dress, sitting on a haystack, holding a fat cat and grooming its fur.

Unlike the stern and unapproachable appearance she used to have, Anne Johnson now seemed quite leisurely and serene, her gaze soft and her face adorned with a faint smile.

Vid thought of the corpse in the morgue, feeling a blockage in his heart; he tightly pursed his lips and turned his gaze away.

The doctor dared not approach Madam Johnson, stopping from a distance, and said, ”I’ve taken good care of her, haven’t I? Can this matter be concluded?”

”Of course.”

Dumbledore sighed, extended his palm, and stroked her forehead, making the doctor feel a sudden warmth all over; she looked at Dumbledore with delight.

The headmaster nodded and said, ”The curse has been lifted. We will take both the person and the corpse. Thank you for your efforts during this time.”

In fact, there was no curse, but the headmaster knew saying so would make people feel more at ease.

Vid added, ”I will send you some money as compensation for your care.” He recalled the standard charges of most sanatoriums, then increased it by fifty percent, and asked, ”Thirty thousand Pounds Sterling, is it acceptable?”

The doctor originally did not want to accept any money related to ”ghosts,” but upon hearing this figure, couldn’t help but feel tempted.

She was merely a resident doctor, with an annual income of around twenty to thirty thousand Pounds Sterling.

After hesitating for a moment, the doctor nodded and said, ”Of course, it’s enough... Actually, it left you a box... Oh, I’m not trying to hide it, I just haven’t had the chance to mention it.”

A few minutes later, the doctor retrieved a long, rectangular box from the farm’s warehouse, labeled with ”For Vid.”

The box had a complex lock, but of course, it posed no challenge for two Wizards. The doctor saw that they barely made any movements, and the solid lock clicked open, filling her with awe and curiosity.

She realized she might have touched upon a corner of a world that ordinary people can never glimpse.

Vid opened the box to find Harry’s Firebolt and Invisibility Cloak, Hermione’s Time Turner, and a letter inside.

He unfolded the letter, seeing Carrel’s slightly messy handwriting—

[Vid, by the time you read this letter, I would have been dead for a long time, right? I hope you don’t feel sad for me, because this is all I deserve.]

[I am very sorry but have no regrets. My mother did nothing wrong; it was all due to me as her son that she suffered these troubles. So if someone has to die, I’d rather it be just me... After all, with time traveling back this far, I am bound to die, so I’d rather trade myself to bring her back.]

[I know the consequences of doing this are severe, but I’ll try not to make any changes to the known history. If there are really repercussions like time chaos... then I’m helpless, and can only wish you all good luck.]

[Perhaps you hate me very much at this moment? But for the sake of my mother’s baked cookies, please help her, let her leave the Magic World and live peacefully... No need to restore those unpleasant memories.]

[If you happen to meet my father someday, please tell him: I’m very sorry, I love him.
