Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying

Chapter 568: Chapter 181: Stars and Quill_3

At the same time, he saw Vid inexplicably smile, but it wasn’t the satisfaction of success; it carried a touch of slyness.

Professor Morry squinted slightly, smiling as he said, ”Vid, I asked you to study this, not to give you a chance to cheat in the exams.”

”Oh, no, I just suddenly thought...”

Vid put down his imitation, smiled, and said, ”With the Communication Pea now, this kind of quill’s role isn’t as significant as before. So in this year’s exams, maybe the Communication Pea will be banned, and an additional detection spell will be added at the entrance.”

”That’s true,” Professor Morry stroked his chin and said, ”I’ll take this suggestion to Dumbledore.”

Vid smiled, somewhat anticipating the scenario where some students truly wear the Communication Pea, thinking they’ve mastered a new cheating method, only to be caught by the professor just before entering the exam hall.

”Let’s talk about the third...”

Professor Morry picked up the third quill again. It was a pure black quill, with slightly decayed feathers on both sides, appearing as if it carried an ominous aura.

”Give it a try,” Professor Morry handed it over.

Vid held the pen, lightly drew on the paper, and the sharp pain in his arm made him frown. A bright red mark appeared on the paper.

He rolled up his sleeve, only to see a fine wound on his arm, with blood beads slowly seeping out, but then the wound quickly healed, as if nothing had happened.

”It’s cursed,” Professor Morry said, ”A very ancient magic, using the user’s blood as ink when writing, and it brings intense pain, a common dark magic item.”

He took the black quill back from Vid’s hand, put it into the box, and said:

”Artifacts like this, which immediately reveal their problems when used, are actually the least frightening, Vid. Truly dangerous beasts are often wrapped in splendid clothing, making people willingly fall into the abyss.”

”I once heard of a wishing quill, where what is written becomes reality, but the ink it consumes is the writer’s luck—frightening, yet alluring to many.”

”However, that’s just a legend. What we are going to learn today is actually this—”

In Professor Morry’s hand, what remained last was a sky-blue quill, the longest among the quills, with a somewhat special-looking tip.

”This is a Shorthand Quill, capable of automatically recording information and embellishing it according to the owner’s thoughts, a favorite of journalists and writers.”

He placed the quill in Vid’s palm and said, ”The automatic writing spell on it isn’t particularly special, but its connection with the wizard’s thoughts is very creative—this is the focus of our lesson today.”

”This differs from injecting thoughts into a poppet, which is a one-time thing. But this—uses your current thoughts to continuously influence the quill.”

”Don’t underestimate this spell. A few rare wizards adept at this can make animals understand their thoughts and also make others act according to the spellcaster’s will, thinking they are their own ideas.”

Vid’s eyebrow rose slightly as he asked, ”Like the Imperio?”

”No, the Imperio is nothing,” Professor Morry said. ”It’s like the means in myths where gods or devils deceive and manipulate humans. It’s said that some magical items can even influence the thoughts of people all over the world.”

”...That sounds a bit scary,” Vid mused and asked, ”How can one avoid such influence?”

”That’s just a legend, Vid. If some magic could influence billions of people, I can’t even imagine what price it would require.”

Professor Morry laughed, ”But once you learn the spell, you’ll naturally learn how to resist it. Now, let’s start with the quill.”
