I Beat Up Npcs in a Bizarre World

244: Chapter 244: Testing the Gods (Part 20)The sooner this is resolved, the sooner the common people can live in peace.

During their absence, mysterious dark vortexes had been appearing around the Holy City, and several children had already gone missing without a trace.

”Sigh, it’s just one thing after another.” Qian Ye pressed a hand to her forehead. Retiring was truly not easy; she couldn’t help but sigh.

They followed the trajectory of the dark vortexes and eventually discovered that these vortexes led to an ancient underground palace.

Strangely, no doors could be seen in the massive palace. From the outside, it exuded a gloomy and terrifying aura, and as they drew closer, the air became thick with a putrid stench.

As they cautiously ventured deep into the palace, they suddenly heard bursts of low growls.

Many eerie runes emerged on the walls, flickering with a ghostly light.

A lieutenant accidentally touched a rune, instantly drawing out a swarm of shadow monsters that lunged at them.

Nangong Yan and Meng Yu rose up to resist, while Qian Ye leaned against a wall to the side for a short nap.

During the battle, Meng Yu discovered that these monsters were afraid of bright light.

In the next moment, the blue light in her hand flared brilliantly, becoming extremely dazzling and forcing the monsters to retreat step by step.

”Damn it, will this ever end?”

”This looks even more disgusting than a video game.” Meng Yu complained while attacking. These monsters were truly too hideous to look at.

They continued forward, having repelled an unknown number of monster waves, leaving the ground covered in black liquid.

As they kept walking, the palace seemed to have no end.

Just as everyone was growing weary, a massive stone door suddenly appeared ahead. The door was carved with patterns of various strange creatures, and there was a circular indentation in the center.

Nangong Yan stepped forward to examine it closely but could find no clues to any mechanism for opening the stone door.

At that moment, Qian Ye seemed to sense something and opened her eyes, slowly walking over. She reached out to touch the stone door and suddenly felt a powerful suction pull her hand into the indentation; immediately after, the stone door slowly opened.

An even more intense putrid stench rushed toward them. It was extremely pungent, and everyone instinctively covered their noses and mouths.

”Ugh, what is this smell... *gag*...”

The group walked inside to find a vast space. In the center was a pool emitting a ghostly black light, with several children soaking inside. Their expressions were numb, and their eyes were hollow.

Meng Yu said indignantly, ”Who could be so cruel?”

Before anyone could react, a Black-Robed Figure stepped out from the shadows, letting out a shrill laugh: ”It’s you again, jie jie jie. You’re already too late; these sacrifices are beyond saving.”

With that, the Black-Robed Figure waved a hand, and more shadow monsters swarmed out from all directions.

Nangong Yan gripped his weapon and shouted, ”Today, we will definitely stop you!”

Meng Yu threw herself into the battle again, vowing to save these innocent children and stop the Black-Robed Figure’s plot.

Qian Ye stood to the side, looking at the children who no longer had souls. The usual playful smile was gone from her face, replaced only by an endless coldness.

Her patience had reached its limit.

An invisible wind blew Nangong Yan and the others aside.

In the next moment, Qian Ye’s hands formed a seal. Red silk threads emitting faint golden light instantly scattered out, piercing through the shadows and the Black-Robed Figure alike.

Those monsters were instantly turned to ash.

Qian Ye’s face quickly turned pale.

If Xiao Hua were here, she would surely be throwing a fit again; the Master was using her Origin Power once more.

”Heavens, as expected, it has to be the Big Boss.” Tai You looked at Qian Ye with starry eyes.

The awe in the depths of Nangong Yan’s eyes grew even stronger.

”Unfortunately, we came too late. These children are still beyond saving.” Nangong Yan shook his head; these children’s souls had already been sacrificed.

They continued to explore further inside.

Finally, they discovered the source—a massive crystal ball corroded by dark energy.
