My Youth Began With Him

“Ha, your style is quite…” Liu Zhe chuckled awkwardly.

“Ruthless? Or, douchey?” Huo Mian answered for him.

“No, but Han Xu was right. You’re as straightforward as you were back then,” he smiled and gave his judgment.

“I’m a simple person. It’s either white or black. It’s less exhausting this way,” Huo Mian emotionlessly replied.

You’re right, living like this is indeed more freeing and relaxing,” Liu Zhe said.

Huo Mian smiled and didn’t continue.

“Uh, Huo Mian, are you…happy with Qin Chu?” he suddenly asked.

“Of course.”

You must really love him?”

“Of course,” Huo Mian answered without hesitation.

“I’m so envious of him, he has such a dedicated wife, haha.”

“You’re wrong, I think more women are envious of me. I have a husband who loves me more than anything.”

At that moment, the car pulled into the parking lot of South Side. Huo Mian checked her watch.

“I’m in a hurry, I have a conference to attend. Thank you for the ride.” After speaking, Huo Mian left the car in a hurry and jogged to the lobby.

Liu Zhe looked at her silhouette in deep thought.

After the conference, she was just about to return to her office when she saw a nurse run to her.

Vice Director, we have an urgent situation in the maternity department. Chief Zhao asked me to come to get you,” the nurse spoke as she panted heavily from the running.

“Speak slower, what happened?”

“We received a patient last night, she was preparing for a natural delivery, but it has been almost ten hours, and she still isn’t fully dilated.”

“Keep waiting, that’s normal.”

“No, she’s in extreme pain, she’s close to passing out. Chief Zhao examined her and found out that the child is in the wrong position. Every time she pushed, the fetus went to the left as opposed to down. Chief Zhao said that she is in danger.”

“What are you waiting for? Give her a C-section,” Huo Mian said in determination.

“Chief Zhao said the same thing, but the patient’s family won’t agree to the surgery. They’re saying that Chief Zhao is trying to scam them into paying more and that’s why we are suggesting C-section.”

“How could they… They’re so ignorant.” Huo Mian’s face darkened.

“Yeah, the situation is very urgent. I don’t think she can hold on any longer, and we’re all worried about her and the kid’s safety. However, her family still wants her to deliver naturally. We don’t know what to do, Chief Zhao asked me to get your opinion. Should we get involved or not?”

“Let me see.”

Huo Mian’s face was cold, she handed her files to Chen Jie and rushed to the maternity department.

This was a rare occurrence since everyone was usually concerned about the mother and the child’s safety. Very few were so uneducated.

Given the large sample size, anything could happen.

Chief Zhao was just a doctor and didn’t have authority. If she did a C-section and the family sued, her career would be over.

If she didn’t do anything and let the family do whatever they wanted, they would also sue if anything happened to the mother and child. There was no easy way out.

Nobody wanted such a hot potato, Director Wu was away for a conference, so Huo Mian had to make the call.

When she got there, she pushed away from the crowd and approached the patient.

“Eh, who are you? Who let you in?” the patient’s bossy mother-in-law interrogated Huo Mian rudely.
