Transmigrating Into a Book, the Villain Becomes the White Moonlight!

152: Chapter 152 Childhood Steamed BunsThe next morning.

When Su Bai opened his eyes, the light filtering through the gap in the curtains was still a pale, bluish-gray.

He reached for his phone and glanced at it, having managed to wake up early for once—even more surprising was that half an hour ago, Mu Xue and Lin Wan had both sent messages at the same time, saying they had early classes and had already left.

The two messages came one after the other, less than thirty seconds apart, with different wording but the same meaning.

Su Bai stared at the screen for a few seconds, feeling that this tacit understanding carried an indescribable implication, but he didn’t dare dwell on it.

He rolled out of bed and, while washing up, noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes in the mirror; the bed last night had been too soft.

But for now, all that could wait—he grabbed his jacket, shuffled into his slippers, and headed out.

Come to think of it, it felt like he hadn’t been to school in a long time.

Fatty and that guy Zhou Feng had been as quiet as if they’d vanished from the face of the earth lately, without even a single annoying message.

Could they be secretly grinding for GPA points while he was away?

Su Bai took a bite of a steamed bun, his thoughts wandering aimlessly.

8:00 AM, the gymnasium.

The heavy doors of the training hall let out a low grinding sound as they were pushed open; the cool white lights were already on, illuminating the vast space into an empty silence.

Ran Shu sat on a bench by the side, dressed in dark, tight-fitting training gear, her long hair tied back in a neat ponytail, revealing the slender and taut lines of her neck.

She seemed to have been there for a while, with an unopened bottle of mineral water beside her.

Hearing footsteps, Ran Shu looked up, her gaze passing over Su Bai’s shoulder to the door slowly closing behind him.

No one.

Only Su Bai was there.

He was wearing loose lounge pants and a pair of gray cotton slippers, clutching a kraft paper bag with faint oil stains from the buns seeping through the opening.

He looked as if he had just strolled over from the breakfast stall downstairs in his residential complex, taking a casual walk.

Ran Shu’s pupils contracted imperceptibly.

Uncle Fu wasn’t following him.

As the sole heir of the Su Family and the Young Master of a top-tier wealthy family in City A, he went out without any attendants or bodyguards?

Was this reasonable?

Obviously not.

Over the years, she had traveled to various countries on missions and assassinated quite a few business leaders and political figures; no matter where they went, they were always accompanied by at least two or three, or even a whole team of security personnel.

That was a survival instinct etched into their blood and bones, a necessary burden brought by status and wealth.

But Su Bai just strolled in like this.

Wearing slippers and carrying breakfast, his demeanor was as relaxed as if he were walking in his own living room, completely unguarded in this empty gymnasium with no third party present.

Was the public security in China really that good?

Or rather—

A colder, deeper doubt surfaced in Ran Shu’s mind: Was his coming alone and defenseless a lapse in judgment, or... did he simply not need to be on guard?

Her heart skipped a few beats uncontrollably; the string that had been taut all night was lightly plucked by an invisible finger, sending tremors through her limbs.

”I thought I came early enough, but you’re even earlier than me,” Su Bai’s voice, carrying the typical morning rasp and casualness, interrupted her thoughts.

He sat down unconstrainedly in the chair opposite Ran Shu, placing the kraft paper bag on the small wooden table between them and pushing it toward her. The buns were still steaming slightly, and the open bag revealed three plump, white, leavened buns huddled together.

”Have you eaten?” he asked.

Ran Shu looked down at the breakfast bag, which still carried the warmth of the morning stall, and for a moment didn’t know how to respond.

She had prepared her blades, adjusted her state of mind, and simulated countless possible scenarios for approaching, testing, and taking action.

But at this moment, Su Bai was just sitting across from her, asking if she had eaten with hands that still carried the sound of rustling plastic from buying breakfast.

This extreme relaxation and lack of defense made her feel an indescribable sense of... absurdity and suffocation, more so than any tight security or unfathomable probing.
