Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2937: Chapter 2873: Picking a Lock

When Meng Xinian woke up, before he even opened his eyes, he first caught the unique fragrance that belonged to Jiang Xiao.

Realizing that he was still in the hospital, he found it quite incredible.

The smell of disinfectant potion and other hospital scents was overwhelming, yet it still didn’t overshadow the fragrance coming from Jiang Xiao.

He opened his eyes and in the faint light, saw her face so close.

She was sleeping, sleeping soundly, her breath carrying that gentle fragrance.

Meng Xinian reached out and softly traced her face with his index finger.

How wonderful, to wake up and see her right by his side.

To be able to touch her by just extending his hand.

To be able to smell her gentle fragrance.

Recollecting the longing of the past two months, he didn’t even know how he managed through.

He leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her lips.

But as soon as he brushed her lips, Jiang Xiao opened her eyes.

”I woke you up.”

Meng Xinian said softly.

”I’ve been idle in the hospital for the past two days doing nothing but sleeping, never slept as much before, so I’m not sleeping deeply anymore.” Jiang Xiao pursed her lips and flashed him a smile.

”How about we go out to admire the moon?” Meng Xinian suddenly had the whim.

Jiang Xiao was momentarily taken aback.

Admire the moon?

”Hmm, once in Ke Ku Li, Wei Yixi and I were hiding from the rebels’ pursuit, staying awake all night. The moon that night was exceptionally round and beautiful. We were sitting among ruins, and I thought to myself, I hadn’t admired the moon with you yet, just two months, so quietly.”

Meng Xinian’s words made Jiang Xiao’s heart a bit sour and yet amused.

Even though they were in danger and had to spend the night in ruins, which made her heartache a bit, the thought of him and Wei Yixi admiring the moon under such circumstances struck her as funny.

”Even if we go moon-gazing now, your first will still be with Wei Yixi, huh.” Jiang Xiao cupped her face in a mockingly heartbroken manner, ”No matter how, I can’t surpass Wei Yixi, he’s your cinnabar mole...”

With a thud.

Meng Xinian flicked her forehead.

”What nonsense are you spouting?”

Meng Xinian held her hand and led her out, the corridor outside empty and quiet.

Jiang Xiao glanced at him, are they really going moon-gazing?

”Let’s go.”

Meng Xinian held her hand, guiding her in a bit of a roundabout way until they found the staircase leading to the rooftop.

This level had four floors.

The iron door to the rooftop was secured with an iron Alliance Officials lock.

”A hairpin?” Meng Xinian extended his hand to her.

Using a woman’s black fine hairpin, he could open such a lock.

Jiang Xiao blinked at him, initially intending to use the Thousand Mile Talisman Diagram, but reconsidered and handed him a small hairpin instead.

Watching him earnestly pick the lock felt quite thrilling.

With a tiny click, the lock was opened.

”Didn’t damage the lock, it can be locked again later.” Meng Xinian said as he pushed open the door, leading her out to the rooftop.

The night breeze was slightly cool, moonlight like water, all around tranquil.

Looking out, the night was vast, with a few dim lights faintly visible in the distance.

Perhaps doctors or nurses occasionally came up to the rooftop as there were two benches placed there.

Jiang Xiao nestled into Meng Xinian’s embrace, leaning on his shoulder, gazing at the moon in the sky, feeling the cool night air, truly realizing that quietly resting together to admire the moon at night was indeed a first.

They were usually busy, often apart, such moments were rare.

Tranquil and leisurely.

”The moon together with you is indeed more beautiful than the moon admired with Wei Yixi.”
