Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2294: Chapter 2230: Feeling Something’s Not Quite Right

”Why don’t you all go together then? It would save Great Officer Meng from having to introduce each of you to his partner individually. I’ve heard that it’s better to have more people for the first gathering at a new place. Although it’s just a military dormitory here, it’s still worth being a bit ceremonious, right? That way, Great Officer Meng’s partner will feel welcome, won’t she?” Sister-in-law Chen suggested.

Duan Huaiyang laughed as he heard this, ”Exactly, exactly. Normally Great Officer Meng looks so cold and aloof. I really want to see how he acts in front of his partner.”

Dai Gang thought to himself, ’When has our Great Officer ever been cold in front of sister-in-law? He probably uses a lot of playful tricks.’

He pondered and said, ”I think we should forget it. Since it’s her first time here, Great Officer should take her around to get familiar first.”

Chen Yujun asked, ”Is Comrade Xiao Chiang very shy? Afraid of strangers?”

When he and Zhao Ren visited previously, they didn’t notice that at all. The young lady seemed quite poised and not at all shy.

Dai Gang replied, ”Not at all...”

’Are you kidding? Would his sister-in-law be shy? Afraid of strangers?’

’Someone who could beat up even a few of us...’

”Then it’s settled, I think it will be fine,” Chen Yujun, thinking he wanted to apologize to Meng Xinian and Chiang Xiao, said, ”We’ll bring a few bottles of drinks to properly welcome Comrade Xiao Chiang.”

Sister-in-law Chen saw that they agreed, and immediately said, ”I’ll cook a couple of dishes to bring along, so they don’t have to work too hard.”

Zhao Ren chuckled, ”Sister-in-law is always so thoughtful.”

The group prepared and headed towards the dormitory area.

Dai Gang felt like something was a bit off.

He wasn’t sure if Great Officer Meng had managed to appease sister-in-law yet.

However, if sister-in-law was already not upset, joining them for a meal would be fine. He knew that Chiang Xiao wouldn’t mind such things at all.

Knowing that Meng Xinian had good rapport in the army, she would be quite happy.

Thinking this, Dai Gang felt reassured.

But he hadn’t anticipated that Long Xiaocai would join them.

Chiang Xiao was in the kitchen cooking. The vegetables were all selected and washed by Meng Xinian, so she was just responsible for stir-frying.

Since they were inviting The Elder Couple Yang to eat, Chiang Xiao cooked the dishes until they were a bit softer, and added an appropriate amount of Spirit Spring Water, more than they usually used for themselves.

Knowing the connection between Meng Xinian and Old Yang, Chiang Xiao wasn’t stingy at all towards Old Yang.

Meng Xinian hovered around her, seeing the amount of Spring Water she used, he understood Chiang Xiao’s intentions. This meal of four dishes and one soup was almost priceless.

They looked like ordinary home-cooked dishes without any meat, but they were precious even if one offered a fortune for them outside.

Unable to resist, Meng Xinian leaned in and kissed Chiang Xiao on the cheek.

”Little, thank you.”

”Thank me for what?” Chiang Xiao glanced at him sidelong, ”Just don’t go looking all lifeless.” To her, Meng Xinian was not someone who would brood and hold onto responsibilities that weren’t his own, leading to a depressed and dejected state.

So, seeing him like that previously felt strange to her.

Luckily, Meng Xinian quickly snapped out of it.

”How could I?” Meng Xinian smiled and said, ”My silly girl doesn’t like that kind of person, so I absolutely wouldn’t be like that.”

”It’s almost done cooking. Go and invite Grandpa Yang and Grandma over.”

”Alrighty.”
