Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2013: Chapter 1949: ASK Research Institute

Old Meng glared.

”He’s getting married after the New Year, didn’t you know that?”

”I know, which is why we can’t let him take leave now; we’ll give him marriage leave after the New Year.”

”Isn’t leave and marriage leave two separate things?”

”For other people, they are separate, but for Xinian...”

Yang Zhiqi didn’t finish his sentence, but Old Meng understood his meaning.

Someone like Meng Xinian, in his position, needs to maintain very good physical condition, so even without tasks, their team’s training schedule remains intense and densely packed.

Furthermore, they have to learn various skills and abilities, so taking frequent leaves is certainly not an option.

Being able to find two or three hours a day for himself is already quite fortunate.

Old Meng shook his head and sighed.

”Can we let him leave two hours earlier tomorrow afternoon and come back the morning after tomorrow? Would that work?”

”Sure.”

”Can I wait for him here?”

”Okay.” Yang Zhiqi shook his head helplessly.

Anyway, if he didn’t let Old Meng see Meng Xinian today, he probably wasn’t going to leave.

But unexpectedly, the wait extended to 5:30 in the evening, Meng Xinian and Dai Gang had returned, while Wu Lingyun had been sent to the hospital.

Meng Xinian, Dai Gang, and Ren Lei all seemed somewhat weary.

Dai Gang even had a beard growing, looking three years older.

Both he and Ren Lei had minor injuries. Saying they were minor, one had a long cut on his arm from a knife, and his entire arm was bandaged.

The other had his forehead smashed in, and it was bandaged now too.

For ordinary people, these wouldn’t be considered minor injuries, but for them, they were.

Seeing their condition, Old Meng couldn’t help but let out a hiss, feeling the pain.

He looked at Meng Xinian with concern.

”Are you hurt?”

”Grandpa, why are you here?” Meng Xinian was surprised to see Old Meng there.

”I have things to discuss and couldn’t wait for you to come back.”

”Let’s talk later; I need to make a report first.”

”Alright, go ahead.”

Old Meng watched his grandson’s back, feeling a sour ache and wanting to cry.

His eldest grandson had been a Supervisor Guard since he was fifteen, braving the elements, and he didn’t know how many times he’d been injured, big or small, but he never really talked to them about it.

He suspected Meng Xinian might also have an injury.

Meng Xinian followed Yang Zhiqi into the office, and as soon as the door closed, he walked straight to the desk, picked up a pen, and wrote a line in his notebook.

Yang Zhiqi glanced down.

”ASK Research Institute? What is this?”

Meng Xinian put down the pen, his face cold and stern, ”I need you to send someone to investigate this.”

”What place? An institution?”

”Yes, the institution Jun Weichi previously worked for, called Yunsheng United Technology, but after our investigation, it turns out Yunsheng United Technology is backed by ASK Research Institute. This research institute is well-hidden; even Jun Weichi, who was employed by Yunsheng United Technology, hadn’t heard of it.”

Meng Xinian paused and said, ”The reason Jun Weichi wants to resign is that she realized the research direction of the institution differed from what she liked, prompting her to leave. But she had an ongoing experiment with a doctor from Yunsheng United Technology, which delayed her decision until now. That doctor...”

”What’s his name?”

”Doctor Elohi, he disappeared the day before yesterday, leaving a message telling Jun Weichi not to continue the experiment and to leave quickly.”

So Jun Weichi finally made her decision.
