Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1695: Chapter 1631 No Need to Apologize

Liu Pei looked at Chiang Songhai and said, ”Do you think she’s referring to you, brother-in-law? Back then, she might have taken the opportunity to register Qingzhu as deceased, which seemed quite possible. Anyway, it wasn’t as strict as it is now; only people with suspicious identities were investigated strictly. For ordinary folks like us, they didn’t care at all. Plus, in those years, many families had someone die, so registering a death seemed quite normal.”

Ge Dejun coughed twice this time and said, ”However, they would visit this person’s village to get a clear understanding. If the situation was confirmed, they would then go to this person’s home, inquire about the family’s opinion, and then register the death.”

It seems very likely that it was Grandma Ge and Aunt Ge who handled this matter back then.

Later, the comrades who went to Siyang Village might have already asked around in the village, knowing that Chiang Qingzhu had indeed been missing for many years. With a missing person report already on file, asking Chiang Songhai, who confirmed without error, led directly to registering as deceased quite naturally.

It’s just that at the time, the two comrades assumed Grandma Ge was the family relative, so they naturally assumed Chiang Songhai knew about applying for the death registration, and thus didn’t clarify too much.

Meanwhile, Chiang Songhai thought they were asking about the missing person registration, so he agreed without asking for clarification.

And so the matter was settled, and Chiang Qingzhu was ”deceased” in this manner.

The more they thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Still, Chiang Xiao had Xu Linjiang take her back to the village to ask several households.

Six years ago, did the comrades come to ask them about Chiang Qingzhu’s situation?

When Chiang Xiao saw Chiang Songtao, he was sitting on the doorstep of the courtyard, smoking a hand-rolled cigarette and coughing.

Chiang Songtao’s current appearance is quite different from a few years ago.

He is quite the opposite of Chiang Songhai.

Chiang Songhai looks increasingly youthful, while Chiang Songtao is aging rapidly.

He is very thin, with a dark complexion, his face full of wrinkles, and his eyes murky.

Chiang Xiao initially wanted to ask him a question, but seeing how he immediately turned his head away when he saw her, she dismissed the idea.

Actually, she had already asked Honest Shi’s family.

Honest Shi confirmed that indeed, back then, someone asked them about Chiang Qingzhu’s situation.

And Aunt Juan was also inquired about.

They all said Chiang Qingzhu ran away many years ago, just a little girl who doesn’t know how to do anything. In those conditions, could she survive out there?

Anyway, they all believed Chiang Qingzhu couldn’t have survived and should already be dead.

They just didn’t dare to speak so bluntly in front of Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao.

Secretary Yao only remembered this time as well, the comrades who came to Siyang Village also asked in the township, and he had indeed spoken about it.

But if Liu Pei hadn’t brought this matter up, they would have long forgotten and simply wouldn’t have remembered.

Back at the Ge Family, Ge Dejun knew Chiang Xiao had already clarified the matter, and his expression turned a bit grim.

”Mother is really too much, how could she make a fuss over such a matter? I’ll go find her now and make her apologize to you.”

Chiang Xiao stopped him: ”Forget it, uncle. We’re going back to the Capital City this afternoon, let’s just leave it at that.”

Are you kidding me, now she feels Grandma Ge has done her a huge favor, why would she want an apology?
