Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1643: Chapter 1645: Life Is Worth More Than Jade

”Has there been any improvement?” Chiang Xiao’s eyes brightened, ”What kind of improvement?”

”Well, he has started to remember some people, and also some places he used to visit. His interactions and behavior have almost returned to normal.”

So, is it possible that he’s almost recovered?

Chiang Xiao’s heart suddenly started beating faster.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao exchanged a glance, both a bit surprised and delighted.

They had already prepared themselves mentally, that no matter what Chiang Xiao’s biological father was like, as long as they brought him back, they would surely treat him as their own son and take good care of him.

However, deep down, for Chiang Xiao’s sake, they still had some slight worries. They feared that his intellect might be severely deficient, and then, while Chiang Xiao might not mind, others might ridicule her for having a foolish father, and also feared he might become a burden to Chiang Xiao.

Now hearing that there has been improvement, the tense string in their hearts relaxed a bit.

Ge Liutao couldn’t help but ask, ”Is he completely better now?”

”Not completely,” Cheng Cheng shook his head, saying, ”He can’t remember his hometown, his family or his full name, nor can he explain clearly why he left home back then. Sometimes, he still acts as stubbornly as a child.”

He glanced at Chiang Xiao, seeing her dazedly staring at him, he couldn’t help softening his tone as he continued, ”However, if he only interacts with others for a short time, and is told in advance what can be said and what can’t, and what attitude to maintain, he can generally manage without error, ensuring others don’t notice he still has issues.”

This was already much better than she had anticipated.

Chiang Xiao bit her lower lip and asked, ”Is he in good health?”

”Not very well,” Cheng Cheng shook his head, ”When the weather’s bad, he often gets headaches, and there’s no regular pattern; sometimes it’s just a dull pain, other times it gets unbearable. Plus, his body is a bit weak, with frequent nightmares, often waking up terrified, shouting in his sleep.”

For some reason, hearing this made Chiang Xiao’s heart ache slightly.

”Then how was he able to save you?”

Cheng Cheng said, ”I’m an orphan, my family was poor, my parents left just one shabby house. When I was young, I was a troublemaker, disliked by everyone, chased away by the villagers as I grew up. Once, I got soaked in the rain, was looking for food outside but couldn’t find any, passed out outside, the rain kept hitting my face, I didn’t know if I was cold or burning up, my consciousness blurred, feeling like I might die by that mud pit, and then I met him.”

Cheng Cheng recalled that day.

”He carried me on his back, asking everywhere for where to find a doctor, and finally took me to see one. The doctor said if I had been brought in a bit later, I might have died or been brain-damaged. There’s an old doctor in our place, he’s quite skilled, but stingy, and insisted on payment first before giving me medicine, so he pawned the jade he always wore around his neck to the doctor.”

As Cheng Cheng mentioned this, his gaze softened, he said, ”At that moment, I knew he was certainly very naive because that piece of jade looked quite valuable, but he took it out without a second thought, and he told me, life is more precious than jade.”

Chiang Xiao was taken aback.

So, is that Ah Liu?

Was her biological father such a person?

She listened, somewhat entranced.
