Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1602: Chapter 1604: The Person in the Portrait

He was just about to take a closer look at the painting when Chu Liang reached out and took it from him, apologizing, ”My apologies.”

Cheng Cheng watched as he carried the painting to Meng Xinian.

Meng Xinian glanced at him. ”Sit down, if there’s anything, we’ll discuss it later.”

Saying this, he moved aside with Chu Liang to talk.

”Earlier, Chiang Xiao asked me to find records of my attempts to locate Sixth Young Master over the years. After thinking back carefully, I pinpointed quite a few instances. They don’t exactly seem like Sixth Young Master, but they do bear some resemblance to the person Chiang Xiao seems to be looking for.”

Chu Liang handed the drawing paper in his hand to Meng Xinian and said, ”Then I went back to someone who claimed to have seen this person back then. I took him to a portrait artist, and based on his descriptions, that artist came up with this painting. That person said the finished portrait is at least sixty to seventy percent similar to the person they met. Great Officer Meng, do you think you should send this to Chiang Xiao first?”

As he said this, he added, ”Great Officer Meng, I couldn’t help but notice the person in this portrait looks quite a bit like Chiang Xiao.”

Meng Xinian looked at the portrait, his gaze deep.

There was indeed about thirty to forty percent resemblance.

Furthermore, if the person claimed this portrait had only about sixty to seventy percent similarity to the real person, then could it mean Chiang Xiao might resemble the real person even more?

”This should be the one she’s looking for,” Meng Xinian said. ”Any leads?”

”I’ve written down everything I can recall. I’ll give it to you later.”

”Alright, take a break for now. We’ll eat in a bit.” Meng Xinian patted his shoulder. ”Thanks for your hard work.”

”Not at all.” Chu Liang turned to head back to his room, giving Cheng Cheng a glance as he left.

Only after putting his things away did Meng Xinian return and sit down across from Cheng Cheng.

”Speak, what business do you have with my fiancée? To the extent that you came all the way here?”

Cheng Cheng’s lips twitched slightly. ”Great Officer Meng, I’m well aware that Chiang Xiao is your fiancée. No need to keep emphasizing it. I harbor no improper intentions toward her.”

”Then what kind of intentions?” Meng Xinian remained unfazed.

”Before I meet her, before it’s confirmed, allow me to keep it confidential.”

Heh, confidential, huh.

”Then you may leave,” Meng Xinian replied.

His posture clearly one of seeing a guest out, Cheng Cheng immediately shifted his attention to Chiang Songhai. ”Grandpa Chiang, does Great Officer Meng have the authority to send guests away in your home?”

”Well, this, this...”

Chiang Songhai suddenly appeared flustered. Naturally, he wasn’t one to throw guests out, but he didn’t understand the relationship between Cheng Cheng and Meng Xinian, nor did he know why Cheng Cheng needed to see Chiang Xiao. For a moment, he didn’t know how to respond.

He looked toward Meng Xinian.

At this moment, a loud clanging sound came from the kitchen.

The noise wasn’t small.

Startled, Chiang Songhai immediately stood up. ”Let me go check on your grandmother!”

Saying this, he quickly darted toward the kitchen.

Seeing Chiang Songhai’s agility, Cheng Cheng couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. Turning to Meng Xinian, he remarked, ”Chiang Xiao’s grandfather is really quite spry. For a moment, I thought he was her father.”

”You can leave now. Don’t forget, you still have team training to oversee.”

”Don’t worry, even with this little detour, I won’t lose.”

Their gazes clashed, sparks practically flying in the silent tension.

In the kitchen, Chiang Songhai steadied Ge Liutao. ”What happened? You dropped the entire pot? Are you alright?”

Ge Liutao shook her head. ”I’m fine, I just suddenly felt a bit nauseous, and my hand slipped.”
