Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1548: Chapter 1550: Shouldn’t You Resent?

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.

She almost immediately guessed that this was Kuang Kanzhi’s idea.

Because even though Chiang Qingzhu as a woman rendered her speechless, she wasn’t shameless enough to say such blatant lies.

When she talked about that Chapter between her and Ah Liu, sure her face went red with embarrassment, but it was obvious there wasn’t a single lie in her words.

But she was too obedient to Kuang Kanzhi.

”So what she’s saying is, she hasn’t met me yet?”

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were suddenly stunned. ”Little, what do you mean? Are you saying you’ve already met your mom?”

”We met, the day before yesterday, actually. And it’s precisely because of this that I came back,” Chiang Xiao said. ”Otherwise, Grandpa, why didn’t you seem the least bit surprised when I heard you bring it up?”

Chiang Songhai trusted Chiang Xiao’s words.

Compared to Chiang Qingzhu, of course, he still believed in Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao was the one they had raised; they had depended on each other for so many years. He knew her personality well. Except for that time several years ago when she suddenly changed...

”Then, then why would your mom lie to us and say she hasn’t met you?”

Ge Liutao couldn’t help but ask, ”Could it be that you’ve seen her, but she didn’t see you?”

Chiang Xiao pressed her lips together and said, ”Grandma, I sat with her in a tea house for an hour.”

”So, so... does that mean you’ve already acknowledged each other?”

”She wants to acknowledge me. I didn’t acknowledge her,” Chiang Xiao said bluntly.

These words made both Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao’s expressions change subtly. They both looked at Chiang Xiao, momentarily at a loss for what to say.

After quite a while, Chiang Songhai finally asked awkwardly, ”Little, is it because... you resent her?”

Because of resentment, she wasn’t willing to acknowledge her. Was that it?

Chiang Xiao took a deep breath and asked in return, ”Do you think I shouldn’t resent her?”

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

Chiang Xiao continued, ”Back then, she abandoned all of you. She abandoned me too. All the suffering I endured when I was a kid—you know about it, don’t you? And do you know, she’s been living a good life for over a decade now? Eating well, dressing well. She clearly had the means to get in touch with us, yet she never even thought about it. She never even secretly sought out news about us.”

Meng Xinian held Chiang Xiao’s hand.

Chiang Xiao felt that rather than keeping it hidden, it would be better to lay the truth bare in front of Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao, letting them understand what had really happened with Chiang Qingzhu all these years, why she hadn’t contacted them. This way, they could decide for themselves how to move forward.

She felt that only this way would be fair to them, and to herself.

Why should she cover for Chiang Qingzhu?

This was the consequence Chiang Qingzhu should bear to begin with.

Even if letting her grandparents know about what Chiang Qingzhu had experienced back then might make them sad or heartbroken, if she didn’t tell them, how could they ever understand why Chiang Qingzhu had stayed in the Kong Family, where she had no kin, for so many years?

Chiang Qingzhu’s behavior and choices were bound to be incomprehensible to her upright grandparents, who had lived their whole lives without ever harming anyone or crossing moral lines, even if they were simple and unremarkable people.

Now, their daughter had been a mistress for more than ten years.

Besides, it wasn’t as if Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao hadn’t prepared themselves mentally for what they might hear about Chiang Qingzhu’s past.
