Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1518: Chapter 1520: None of Your Business

For some reason, he even felt a little overwhelmed with favor.

Based on what he knew about the Meng Family and the things with Old Chiang Family, he knew that Chiang Xiao was someone who could be quite indifferent to family relationships. Once her relatives offended her, she would show no mercy.

If she was willing to speak so cordially with him, she must really consider him as one of her own.

He immediately straightened his face and said, ”Sister-in-law, please go on, I am all ears.”

”There are too many temptations in this world, and furthermore, it’s human nature to crave novelty and despise the familiar. Most cannot resist temptation, whether it be men or women. However, due to social circumstances, the fetters imposed on women by conventional norms are greater, and women tend to lean more towards emotional connections. These two factors combined make women relatively more resistant to temptation from the opposite sex than men.”

Chen Yin was somewhat bewildered.

Although he didn’t see Chiang Xiao as a typical seventeen-year-old girl, her speaking so earnestly about these matters felt really out of place.

Nevertheless, he nodded in agreement, and had to admit that Chiang Xiao was being quite objective.

”Society’s expectations and restrictions on men are naturally fewer. Add to that... physiological reasons, and it becomes clear that for a man to resist the temptation of the opposite sex, principles, loyalty, and responsibility are needed. Take Xu Yiqiu for example. In your view, you think nothing happened between you and her, right? But Chen Yin, what truly counts as ’something having happened’?”

Chen Yin wanted to say that it should at least stretch to kissing, hugging, or going to bed, but in front of Chiang Xiao, he was too embarrassed to say it out loud.

However, through his expression, Chiang Xiao understood.

She shook her head and said, ”If you were single, nobody would have the right to judge you, even if something really did happen between you and Xu Yiqiu—that would be your freedom. However, you have a girlfriend. If you truly love Wang Yi, then to protect her from getting hurt and to cut off all temptations, you should at least set a clear boundary for yourself with other women. Surely, you couldn’t treat other women better than you treat Wang Yi, could you?”

She paused and continued, ”Initially you didn’t reject Xu Yiqiu’s approaches, you gave her flowers, you opened the car door for her, pulled out chairs for her, supported her when walking, and made plans to spend the night alone with her. I want to ask, what if it were the other way around, with Wang Yi and Lee Wenwei doing the same?”

Wang Yi and Lee Wenwei doing the same...

Chen Yin’s face immediately darkened, and with that, he probably felt like killing someone.

”You see, people are strict with others but lenient with themselves,” Chiang Xiao said. ”So, do you still think that nothing happened between you and Xu Yiqiu, that you did not wrong Wang Yi? While you were doting on Xu Yiqiu, treating her like a gentleman, how did you treat Wang Yi? At that time, Wang Yi didn’t even exist in your eyes, so isn’t that a sort of betrayal?”

”Sister-in-law...”

”Like Meng Xinian, you and other men may feel that he is somewhat inaccessible, cold, and to other women, somewhat cruel, right? But that’s him building a hard wall against temptation for my sake, ultimately it’s because he doesn’t want me to get hurt. He knows that I am the one he is going to spend his life with. He basically can’t love other women, so what’s the need to act gentlemanly to them?”

”Let the men who can love those other women take care of them. What does it have to do with you? When you start feeling protective and tender towards another woman, then what place does your girlfriend have in your heart?”

As she spoke, Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but think of Kuang Kanzhi again.
