Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 923: Chapter 924 Hate Her to the Bone

Anyway, she felt nothing but disgust for most of the residents of Siyang Village.

Even though things were somewhat different in this life, she had never forgotten the harm these people had done to her in her previous life.

But since Secretary Yao had asked for her help, she wouldn’t immediately throw cold water on his request. After all, putting in effort was a good thing, no matter what.

”So what does Secretary Uncle want me to do?”

”Chiang Xiao, you’re a painter! I was thinking, why not leverage your reputation? You could paint two pictures for our village—one of the village’s overview, and the other of the Bai Gu Mountain landscape. I will make a booklet and take it to the county meeting, so when I distribute it there, wouldn’t everyone get a more direct impression of our village? Plus, your paintings will definitely be beautiful. Once the county leaders see them, isn’t it more likely they will allocate funds to us?” Secretary Yao said with some excitement.

He had actually been planning to call Chiang Xiao these last two days and discuss it with her, but it turned out she had come back just in time.

Suddenly, a thunderclap sounded outside, and dark clouds rolled in, darkening the sky once again.

It looked like it was going to rain again, and this time it seemed it would be even heavier than the rains of the previous days.

Secretary Yao also glanced at the sky and said with a smile, ”It seems you’ll have to make do with a meal here at noon, with the weather holding you up.”

Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang both shook their heads, ”Secretary Yao, there’s no need for formality, we’ve brought rice and food with us. We can just cook at Little’s place later. We don’t come here often, and it’s rare for us to return, so we need to clean up and light a fire; that way the houses don’t fall into disrepair too quickly.”

Indeed, that was the common belief. Since they insisted, Secretary Yao did not press them to stay.

He then looked towards Chiang Xiao, ”You see, you have been to Bai Gu Mountain, you must know which part of the mountain has the best scenery, right?”

Xu Linjiang joined in, ”Secretary Yao, aren’t all the villagers afraid of Bai Gu Mountain?”

”I also didn’t want to go up the mountain before,” Secretary Yao said with a smile: ”But in these last two years, haven’t you all been going up and down without any problems? I was thinking of hiring a group of young people to go up the mountain with the funds to clean it up. Once we clear away the underbrush and it looks a bit more welcoming, people won’t be afraid anymore.”

”Alright,” Chiang Xiao considered for a moment and nodded in agreement. ”Two days, I was actually planning to leave in two days. I can get the paintings done in these two days, and then maybe Secretary Uncle can arrange for someone to come to town to pick them up.”

”Good, good, good, no problem, I’ll personally go to town to pick them up! Chiang Xiao, I must thank you on behalf of the whole village,” Secretary Yao was very pleased.

Chiang Xiao just smiled in response.

The whole village being grateful to her was something she found hard to believe. At least the Old Chiang Family, Niu Guiying’s family, and Liu Caiyun hated her to death.

And surely Wan Niu, Sun Laoliu, Old Li, and others must feel deep-seated hatred towards her.

But what did that matter?

She couldn’t have cared less!

Agreeing to help Secretary Yao was just because of him, and also about her contributing that little bit to the village she was part of.

As long as her conscience was clear, that was enough.

Afterward, Ge Dejun and Xu Linjiang discussed the contracting issue with Secretary Yao.

Occasionally, Chiang Xiao would interject a word. Secretary Yao originally wanted to use Bai Gu Mountain to make a name, and with people willing to take the lead, he was naturally happy, and it would also be an income for the village.

”After bringing up this matter last time, I’ve already made an announcement in the village, giving them three days. If there are villagers who also want to contract that part of the mountain slope, as residents of Siyang Village, we naturally have to give priority to our own people, don’t you think?”
