Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 731: Chapter 732 Leaving

Meng Xinian’s mood this time was truly awful.

The low tone of his voice allowed Chiang Xiao to detect it immediately.

”Brother Xinian, what’s wrong?”

Meng Xinian wiped his face and said, ”I have to participate in a special training.”

”Haven’t you attended many of those before? Is this time different?” Chiang Xiao felt disappointed as well; in fact, she had also been looking forward to the winter break because she wanted to see him.

Moreover, she had brought him a gift.

Meng Xinian responded in a heavy tone, ”It’s different, it’s overseas.”

Chiang Xiao was shocked. Overseas?

To participate in special training? In this day and age?

Meng Xinian said, ”And it’s for a year.”

Chiang Xiao cried out, unable to hide her reaction: ”A year?”

A year was just too long!

Meng Xinian thought the assignment was unexpected, yet on second thought, it seemed inevitable.

He wasn’t supposed to be on the list for this task in the first place.

But some people believe this would distance him from that ”no-good young girl,” right? So, they must’ve pressured behind the scenes to send him away.

In this matter, he was unable to oppose the powers that be. Plus, once the order was issued, as a Supervisor Guard, he had no choice but to obey. They might not be in the military, but the rules were the same.

Even though it was not just training, it was a dangerous mission as well.

In the past, he would have had no fear and could have left without a backward glance, but when such a mission was clearly intended to separate him from Chiang Xiaoxiao, he felt particularly stifled.

And now, he had someone in his heart, feeling incredibly reluctant to leave Chiang Xiaoxiao’s life for a whole year.

A year, after all, is not a month.

Although it had already been three or four months since he last saw her.

”Yes, a year.”

”Can’t make phone calls, can’t write letters?” Chiang Xiao had already guessed as much, or else his mood wouldn’t be so somber.

Meng Xinian unconsciously repeated her words, ”Yes, can’t make phone calls, can’t write letters, and certainly can’t meet.”

Which meant that for this year, it was as if they were parting ways.

Upon hearing this, Chiang Xiao’s mood also plummeted.

Realizing she hadn’t spoken for a while, Meng Xinian’s voice softened as he asked, ”Are you crying?”

Chiang Xiao was annoyed, ”Why would I cry?”

”Wouldn’t you cry because you can’t bear to part with me?”

Chiang Xiao’s face grew warm. What did he mean she couldn’t bear to part with him!

”Who can’t bear to part with you? It’s only a year, it’ll pass by in the blink of an eye.”

”How could it possibly pass in the blink of an eye? I’m sure it will feel like an eternity,” Meng Xinian sighed softly, then lifted his spirits a bit and said, ”Chiang Xiaoxiao, I’m about to leave. During this year, you must study hard and take care of yourself. But don’t do anything foolish.”

”What do you mean by anything foolish?”

”Think it over yourself. If you can’t figure it out, that just means you’re too stupid,” Meng Xinian chuckled.

Chiang Xiao pursed her lips.

”Also, you’re going to high school next semester, but just at that time, I won’t be around,” realizing this made Meng Xinian feel especially frustrated. He had planned to have a good talk with her face to face when she came to City M for the winter break, to decide which school she should choose. Now, those plans were ruined, ”For this matter, look for Xue Liujin. Ask him for help, at most give him a few more boxes of snacks.”

Chiang Xiao felt a bit uneasy inside.

In fact, regarding the choice of which high school to attend, she had already made up a plan lately. She had thought of discussing it thoroughly with him when they met in the provincial city, but now she suddenly had no chance.
