Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 713: Chapter 714: Not Even the First Stroke of the Character Eight

Old Tang snorted and said, ”What do you mean your granddaughter-in-law? Not even the beginnings of one stroke of a character have been drawn yet. I find I get along quite well with Xiao Chiang, and she’s about the same age as Tang Qing. Why not let your grandson step aside and not tear apart a truly good match?”

”Grandpa, are you finding me a match again?” Tang Qing said helplessly, ”And you want to break up Big Brother Meng’s engagement?”

Having such a grandfather really was tiring for him.

”Don’t listen to Old Meng, Xiao Chiang and Meng Xinian aren’t even official yet...”

Old Tang hadn’t even finished his sentence when Meng Xinian’s deep voice had already risen, ”Who says it’s not official? We’ve already given the engagement gifts and held the engagement banquet. In Chiang Xiao’s family’s customs, that’s almost the same as being married.”

So, they might as well approve that they were already married.

”Xiao Chiang is still so young, even if she really were married, it wouldn’t be a big deal. If they divorced, she could still marry Tang Qing, not to mention it’s only an engagement.” While Old Tang was speaking, he was sizing up Meng Xinian and Tang Qing, ”Look, look, Xiao Chiang and Tang Qing are more suited for each other.”

Tang Qing became even more curious about Chiang Xiao as they talked about her like this.

”Where is Xiao Chiang?” he asked.

Old Tang immediately said, ”Yes, where is she? Bring her here to meet Tang Qing, who knows, maybe they’ll take a liking to each other at first sight.”

Meng Xinian had been reluctant to let Chiang Xiao leave before, but now he felt relieved that Chiang Xiao had already left, gone from the Capital City; otherwise, these old fellows could have found her ten or eight potential suitors.

”She’s gone back to G Province.”

After those few words, Meng Xinian felt delighted. Yes, it was a good thing she had gone back at this time; she wouldn’t have to be on Old Tang’s mind, nor meet Tang Qing.

It saved her from Old Tang’s relentless scheming to introduce Tang Qing to Little.

But Old Meng wasn’t happy about it.

”Why did you let her go back so soon? We still wanted to enjoy some pastries.”

”Pastries? Oh right, what were you all arguing about when I came in?”

Old Meng quickly raised the two boxes of pastries he held and said, ”Xinian, look, I generously offered them a piece each to try, but then each of them ate three pieces and outright plundered my tea snacks! I only had two boxes!”

This granddaughter-in-law was incredible; she truly was capable of everything.

When Meng Xinian previously mentioned that Chiang Xiao could make pastries, Old Meng didn’t believe him. He didn’t think that a young girl’s pastries could compare to those made by master chefs in stores outside.

If he had known those pastries were so delicious, how could he possibly have shared them with these old geezers? It would have been better to keep them and enjoy them slowly by himself.

As soon as he had brought them out, these old fellows initially didn’t know how tasty they were and only took a piece each to give him face. But as soon as the pastry touched their tongues, they felt as if their taste buds had been entirely conquered.

So, while Old Meng was still out of sorts, they quickly snatched up two more pieces each, and the pastries were all divided up clean and fast.

Fearing they’d appear too refined and the pastries would get stolen by others, they each stuffed them in their mouths in one bite, leaving almost none behind.

”They’re truly delectable!” Old Tang told Meng Xinian, ”I’ve never had such delicious pastries before. Did Xiao Chiang really make these?”

”Xiao Chiang helped, but the main chefs must have been her grandparents.” Meng Xinian hadn’t had the chance to try them himself and didn’t know they had been snapped up in an instant.

”It’s truly remarkable, so tasty, so delicious, I had three pieces and it still doesn’t feel enough!” Old Tang eagerly asked.
