Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 706: Chapter 707 What’s Wrong with Being Young?

Mother Chen’s enthusiasm was almost too much for Chiang Xiao to handle.

However, when Mother Chen asked about their relationship, Meng Xinian suddenly became alert and immediately corrected her, ”Aunty, Chiang Xiao isn’t my distant cousin; she’s my fiancée!”

”What did you say?”

Mother Chen was almost startled.

Chiang Xiao gave Meng Xinian a helpless glare.

Once again, she’d have to endure being scrutinized like a small animal on display.

Indeed, Mother Chen was very curious about her, stealing glances at her from time to time and asking her several questions.

If it hadn’t been for Meng Xinian mentioning that they had an appointment with his grandfather, Mother Chen might have insisted on keeping Chiang Xiao there.

It wasn’t until they left with the items that Chiang Xiao breathed a sigh of relief.

Now she suddenly looked forward to growing up, hoping that at least when others knew she was Meng Xinian’s fiancée, even if they were curious, they wouldn’t look at her like they were looking at a rare animal.

They had arranged to meet Old Meng for hotpot at noon.

The hotpots nowadays were all made of copper, which looked quite quaint.

They had only been there for a while when Old Meng arrived; to their surprise, he didn’t come alone but brought four people with him.

Upon seeing the other three individuals, Meng Xinian’s mouth twitched, and then he leaned down to give Chiang Xiao a heads-up.

”These three are Grandpa’s old friends, friends for decades. They enjoy comparing with each other. Mentally prepare yourself; today the old man probably brought them specifically to check you out,” he said.

After speaking, he moved a couple of steps to the side, distancing himself from Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but glare at him.

Was this guy too disloyal?

Knowing that these people came to scrutinize her, he deliberately distanced himself from her?

”Old Wang, Old Lou, Old Tang, come, come, take a look. This is my granddaughter-in-law, surnamed Chiang, just call her Xiao Chiang!” Old Meng laughed heartily, his voice booming, clearly showing off.

Otherwise, why would he have gathered his three old friends so early in the morning?

”Such a young girl?” an old man dressed in a Sun Yat-sen suit, who looked nearly seventy, asked in surprise.

”What’s wrong with being young? What’s wrong with that?” Old Meng immediately exclaimed, ”My granddaughter-in-law might be young, but she’s clever and gracious! You have no idea; she can draw, make pastries, and her academic performance is outstanding, I heard she even skipped grades. She was supposed to be in the first year of junior high but jumped right to the third year. Isn’t that impressive?”

”Really? That is indeed impressive. Which family is Xiao Chiang from?” another old man inquired.

Hearing his question, Chiang Xiao knew their status must be extraordinary.

Old Meng looked at her as well.

Most kids would feel inferior and sensitive when asked such questions.

Some would try to cover up their family background, while others might brag or lie.

But last night, Chiang Xiao had straightforwardly told him about her family. He felt that Chiang Xiao was neither of these types, but he still looked forward to her answer.

Chiang Xiao smiled faintly and said, ”Since my surname is Chiang, naturally, I am a child of the Chiang family. You gentlemen must be old teammates, while my grandfather was one of the civilians who assisted the old teammates back in the day. We are from G Province.”

A simple sentence, yet neither servile nor overbearing.

Does their current family status really matter?

Chiang Xiao knew that, in this lifetime, she would not end up wandering aimlessly to a tragic end as she had in her previous life.

Old Meng couldn’t help but want to clap his hands and cheer for Chiang Xiao.

Weren’t they all old teammates?

And among these people, Old Tang was one of those who had benefited from the good medicine of Chiang Songhai back in the day.
