Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 675: Chapter 676 That’s My Grandfather

Du Jinruo had inquired about the Meng family’s affairs. Some things she knew without asking, as people in this large compound had a clear understanding of them.

The relationship between Meng Xinian and his father and stepmother was extremely poor. The only person he truly cared about was Old Meng.

Therefore, the gifts she brought were all for Old Meng. Seeing him in person, she found that she quite liked Old Meng; he was cordial and easygoing, without a hint of pretentiousness.

Hearing Old Meng speak like this, Du Jinruo readily agreed. ”Grandpa, you said it yourself, I’ll come by often, as long as you don’t find me annoying,” she said, taking the phone with a blush on her face.

The thought of the man on the other end made her heart jump again.

”Don’t worry about it. Have a chat with Xinian. Ask the boy when he’ll be back,” Old Meng said, walking away with his hands behind his back. After that long talk with Meng Xinian, his throat was a bit dry, and he needed to brew a cup of tea.

As he walked off, Du Jinruo pressed the phone to her ear, trying to calm her racing heart and seem more natural, but the way she called out was unintentionally coquettish.

”Brother Xinian, it’s Jinruo...”

Meng Xinian’s voice turned cold. ”I don’t care who you are. Who allowed you to call me that?”

Du Jinruo’s face stung with embarrassment. ”But Grandpa said...”

”That’s my grandpa, not yours. If you really want to call him that, you can add his surname. He’s senile; you can’t listen to what he says!” Meng Xinian spoke sternly and then hung up the phone with a snap.

She was infuriated.

He had something to say to the old man, but since he had handed the phone to someone else, what was there left to say? He didn’t enjoy chatting on the phone with other women, after all.

That old man, he would need to be properly taught a lesson later.

The nickname ”Brother Xinian” he had previously stated was exclusive to Little Little alone. It disgusted him to hear it from any other woman.

Du Jinruo held the phone, standing dumbstruck for quite some time.

She couldn’t believe that Meng Xinian could be so cold, and what’s more, he had actually hung up on her!

Was talking to her that irritating to him?

He still owed her!

She had already decided to forgive him, but now her anger reignited furiously.

She could not forgive him! He had to make it up to her!

”Xiao Du, what’s wrong? Did Xinian say when he’ll be back?” Old Meng sipped his tea contentedly, moistening his throat, then turned and saw Du Jinruo standing there in a daze, prompting him to ask.

Du Jinruo took a deep breath, set down the phone, and steadied her expression before turning to reply, ”Grandpa, he didn’t say. He already hung up. Captain Meng might... dislike me a bit...”

Her demeanor and tone sounded aggrieved.

Old Meng, feeling sorry for her, hurriedly consoled her, ”That damn kid is just like that! A temper just like his father’s! Don’t think he hates you; he’s like that with everyone! Even with me!”

With that said, Old Meng suddenly remembered that when Xinian mentioned his little fiancée, he wasn’t so cold, was he?

Whenever he spoke of that young lady, his tone was especially tender!

Thinking of this, Old Meng became even more eager to meet Chiang Xiao.

What kind of girl was she?

Du Jinruo bit her lower lip. Was it really true?

She felt that there was no need to be so polite with Meng Xinian. He owed her, after all. Why be courteous? Cold or polite, he was still so distant!
