Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 659: Chapter 660 She is Short of Money

Chiang Xiao became the youngest in the class, and as a result, from teachers to classmates, everyone unconsciously wanted to take care of her. Having always encountered extremely odd situations, three days later, Chiang Xiao realized she had inexplicably become the class pet and actually felt a bit flustered.

First off, when it came to classroom duties, no one arranged for her to do them.

Classroom duties involved things like wiping the blackboard and sweeping the floor, but they all felt that Chiang Xiao was young, a little sister, so they excluded her from these tasks and removed her name from the duty roster.

Another was having her sit in the middle of the first row in the classroom.

Although many students didn’t like sitting too close to the lectern, how could they let Chiang Xiao, who was younger, sit in the back where she might be blocked from view?

Also, quite a few classmates would give her snacks during the break.

Some gave her a handful of candy, others a bun, and some a bottle of soda.

There were even those who sharpened her pencils for her.

Of course, what more students were interested in were her notes.

And although Chiang Xiao had already started paying attention and deliberately altered her handwriting a bit, her calligraphy still sparked an enthusiastic wave of handwriting practice among the class.

This made the school principal and teachers very happy.

Overall, Chiang Xiao’s ninth-grade life turned out to be much more relaxed and joyful than she had anticipated.

In these past few days, she hadn’t seen Zou Xiaoling at school, so maybe she hadn’t been discharged from the hospital yet. But Chiang Xiao ran into Yu Chunyu two or three times.

However, Yu Chunyu unexpectedly didn’t come up to talk to her, and even once didn’t look at her at all, hastily leaving the school.

This eased Chiang Xiao’s mind considerably.

She didn’t care what Yu Chunyu was up to, as long as it had nothing to do with her.

But as for money matters, she hadn’t come up with any good solutions, and these past few evenings she had painted two pictures. However, not being particularly satisfied with them, she decided to hang them in the Bamboo Hut for her own enjoyment, without any intention of sending them to Mingchen Studio in the county to sell on consignment.

A few days later, she received a letter from Meng Xinian.

There was something mentioned in Meng Xinian’s letter that both alarmed and excited Chiang Xiao, yet made her hesitate.

Because Meng Xinian had asked if she wanted to make some money. He asked her about this because for many days, that particular cup had left him quite astonished.

Drinking water from that cup felt truly different.

Moreover, when he returned to his barrack feeling exceptionally worn out from training, using that cup to drink water gave him the impression that his strength recovered exceptionally fast, and the fatigue dissipated just as swiftly.

Meng Xinian had restrained himself for many days, hesitated for many days, and only after receiving a phone call from Chu Liang did he finally decide to bring up this matter to Chiang Xiao.

His grandfather had an old friend who loved collecting fine objects, which were mostly antiques, but a part also included things that appealed to him or had an element of novelty.

Most importantly, the old man was wealthy.

If he took an interest in an item, as long as he could afford the price, he would want to buy it.

Chu Liang told him that Chiang Xiao had sent a telegram saying they can wait a bit longer on the house refurbishment, that there was no need to rush.

Meng Xinian immediately guessed Chiang Xiao was short of money.

Obtaining a property for nine thousand yuan, could she not be lacking money?

But the money he could have provided had already been given to her, and a portion of it was in real estate. He had two more shops in the Capital City that he planned to leave to Chiang Xiao eventually. After hearing what she said about properties appreciating in value, he was even more convinced that he should not sell the houses and shops for now, and would simply hand them over to Chiang Xiao to manage later.
