Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 526: Chapter 527: Confessing on Stage (for Wei Chi +1)

Meng Xinian had completely transformed into the image of a mature man, with no trace of boyishness left. His white shirt exuded a sense of crispness and sharpness.

Heart pounding furiously, Du Jinruo was so nervous that she nearly misspoke the lines she could recite backwards in her sleep. Fortunately, her extensive stage experience kicked in, and she managed to call the end of the show without any hiccups.

Once she was backstage, she immediately covered her face.

Oh my god, she was actually this nervous!

So nervous that her palms were sweating and her cheeks burnt hot! What was happening?

”Jinruo, are you alright? Your face looks so red,” a Female Supervisor Guard asked with concern.

Quickly, Du Jinruo shook her head, ”I’m fine.”

Her solo was next! Would he be able to recognize her then?

Indeed, it occurred to Du Jinruo only now that when she had been announcing earlier, Meng Xinian seemed not to have looked at her at all! His gaze was distant, as if he were lost in thought.

Secretly cheering herself on, Du Jinruo told herself not to be nervous, to perform flawlessly! She absolutely wouldn’t show that Meng a repeated performance! She was no longer the Du Jinruo of the past!

At that moment, two more people entered the auditorium. After scanning around, they found seats at the back and sat down.

The first performance was a dance.

Anyhow, it was met with thunderous applause from the audience.

When it came time for Du Jinruo’s solo, the audience quieted down, with all eyes fixed on her.

What Du Jinruo sang was ”Red Berries in Bloom,” her voice clear and tender, captivating the audience who couldn’t help but keep beat and sing along.

The atmosphere was fervent, and Zhao Xin and others clapped vigorously.

After the song ended, someone shouted, ”Miss Du, please sing another one!”

”Yeah, yeah! One more song!”

”Miss Du Jinruo is truly the flower of the team! Can you sing ’The Bright Moon Illuminates My Heart’?”

”It’s a must!”

Having been through many similar scenes before, Du Jinruo pressed her lips together in a slight smile. She stood there silently for a moment, her gaze landing on the fourth row where Meng Xinian sat.

Meng Xinian was indeed looking over.

Meeting his deep and luminous black eyes, Du Jinruo’s heart started racing again.

She kept telling herself, Du Jinruo, you’re here to settle old scores with him. Stay calm, stay calm!

It was then that a loud voice drowned out all others.

”Sorry everyone! After this song, Miss Du Jinruo will be going to see a movie with me!”

That announcement was like a thunderclap that stunned everyone in the room.

Including Du Jinruo on stage.

Her heart jolted, disbelieving, she looked over in that direction, eyes wide as she watched the tall, lean young man walking towards the stage from the aisle.

”Captain, it’s Gao Wei!” Zhao Xin couldn’t help but exclaim in a low voice.

It was Gao Wei!

Wasn’t he in Capital City? What was he doing in G Province?

Gao Wei had always been Meng Xinian’s arch-rival since childhood!

However, Gao Wei hadn’t noticed Meng Xinian; his eyes were fixated on Du Jinruo on stage, walking straight toward her. He stood below the stage, one hand behind his back, the other braced against the half-person-high stage, and with a light leap, jumped up onto it.

This move was quite charismatic.

Approaching Du Jinruo, he presented a bouquet of flowers he’d been hiding behind his back, holding them out before her eyes.
