Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 457: Chapter 457: A Matchmaking is for a Lifetime

Kuang Yun Xian also knew about those matters of the Meng Family. After the shock had subsided, it took him a great deal of effort to calm down. He glanced at Chiang Xiao and acted very gentlemanly by not asking further.

He would wait for an opportunity to ask Meng Xinian later.

However, he said to Meng Xinian with a smile, ”Then you must not bully Chiang Xiao.”

Chiang Xiao felt that this was indeed the right thing to say, and quickly nodded in agreement, ”Brother Kuang is right, you must not bully me.”

Meng Xinian reached out to pinch her face, but Chiang Xiao jumped back to avoid it, then made a face at him, pulling a goofy expression.

”Brother Kuang, look, he wants to bully me right now!”

Meng Xinian could not help but laugh. Girl, whose family are you from, and who are you close to?

Could that even be considered bullying?

Kuang Yun Xian just watched them with a good-natured smile.

It was rare to see this side of Meng Xinian; usually, he was very cold with not a hint of a smile. It seemed the little girl named Chiang Xiao had indeed changed him quite a bit.

”Is Chiang Xiao really your fiancée?”

Meng Xinian nodded: ”Of course it’s true.”

”Does your family know?” Kuang Yun Xian found the opportunity to ask Meng Xinian when Chiang Xiao went back to her own room to use the bathroom.

However, he noticed that once Chiang Xiao left, Meng Xinian reverted back to his usual demeanor, his handsome face taut, looking like a piece of hard, cold stone.

Especially when the Meng Family was mentioned, his eyes were filled with sarcasm and coldness.

”Old Meng knows, and that’s enough.”

”But if your father finds out, Chiang Xiao might face a great deal of trouble. Why, have you really taken a liking to her? Fond of a little girl?”

Meng Xinian was at a loss for words when asked, instinctively shaking his head: ”How could that be possible, she is just a little girl, after all.”

How could he fall for a girl who was only thirteen?

Meng Xinian shook his head again, denying it, and even emphasized: ”She is interesting. Besides, it just so happens to be the arranged engagement Old Meng made for me back then. She will be useful in fending off the arranged matches they want to set up for me, right? Finding someone random wouldn’t be as effective, after all, they know about that engagement.”

Just then, Chiang Xiao happened to come back. It was only the bathroom across the way, so she returned after a quick visit. Standing at the door, she just heard Meng Xinian’s remarks.

She stopped outside the door.

Inside, Meng Xinian and Kuang Yun Xian hadn’t noticed her.

Hearing Meng Xinian’s words, Kuang Yun Xian was taken aback.

”Didn’t you always resist Old Meng mentioning this arranged engagement? Why have you accepted it now?”

”Isn’t it because those people pushed me too hard?” Meng Xinian said with disgust and a touch of impatience and coldness towards his family. ”I wasn’t actively looking for her, but it just so happened that I met the person who saved Old Meng years ago, and just so happened to reach this point. I’m just going with the flow.”

Kuang Yun Xian frowned slightly, sighed and said, ”But you shouldn’t be so rash, marriage is a lifelong matter. What if you meet a girl you really like in the future?”

”That won’t happen.” The image of Chiang Xiao’s bright face surfaced in Meng Xinian’s mind, and he instinctively felt defensive. He already had a fiancée, why would he like another girl? If he was to develop feelings, he could wait for his young fiancée to grow up and like her then, right? ”Let it be, Brother Yun Xian, you know I detest betrayal and giving up the most. Since I’m engaged, to me, it’s for a lifetime.”

”A marriage with only obligation and no affection can be very painful,” said Kuang Yun Xian, patting his shoulder.
