Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Give Lizi as an Example

By the time he rushed over in frantic haste, Chiang Xiao threw herself in front of him, cupping her hands before his face, ”Uncle, look what I found!”

The chestnuts she had picked were lying in her palms, plump wild chestnuts that looked drool-worthy already.

Xu Linjiang had thought she was in trouble, his heart pounding fiercely, yet to calm down, when he saw the handful of chestnuts, he was stunned.

”Uncle! Snap out of it, snap out of it!”

Only then did Xu Linjiang come back to his senses, ”Chestnuts?”

”Yes!”

”Good heavens, Little, you really do scare me to bits,” Xu Linjiang patted his chest, a little slow to catch on to the excitement, ”Are these wild chestnuts?”

”Ta-da!” Chiang Xiao hopped aside to show him what was behind her, ”Look, there are two such big chestnut trees! Look at the ground!”

”So many chestnuts have fallen?” Xu Linjiang’s eyes widened as well.

”Yes, it seems these two chestnut trees are very high-yielding!”

”This is such a pity! So many have fallen; they must have all rotted!” Xu Linjiang was both excited and distressed. So many chestnuts uncollected, all falling to the ground to slowly rot away—it really was a shame!

”Not necessarily all rotten, Uncle, look, look, I can pick two good ones just by hand!” Chiang Xiao squatted down to sort through the chestnuts.

Many were indeed rotten, but on the very top layer, there were still a good number that looked intact. There were also some that seemed to have been nibbled open by small animals or pecked at by birds.

So many indeed, if carefully sorted, they should still be able to reap quite a harvest!

Xu Linjiang also squatted down immediately and began sorting carefully.

Before long, a pile of intact chestnuts had amassed beside the two of them.

Altogether, there had to be at least twenty or thirty pounds’ worth.

Xu Linjiang originally thought many would be rotten, and that finding a few pounds would be a pleasant surprise; after picking out twenty or thirty pounds and realizing they had only covered a small area, he wiped off a sweat, his eyes shining as he said to Chiang Xiao, ”Little, let’s not do anything else today and just pick and peel chestnuts!”

So many!

Chiang Xiao nodded vigorously, eager for some sugar-fried chestnuts.

With so many, she could finally eat her fill! And since there would surely be more chestnuts in the future, when these two chestnut trees bore fruit again, they would come back to harvest!

”Call your grandpa and uncle over too,” Xu Linjiang felt that the two of them wouldn’t likely finish picking the chestnuts by dark.

Chiang Xiao immediately said, ”I’ll go call them.”

Standing on higher ground, she cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted down, ”Grandpa, Uncle, come and help! We’ve got good stuff!”

Ge Dejun and Chiang Songhai were astonished by the swath of wild chestnuts after they arrived.

In the end, they were worried about Chiang Xiao hurting her soft hands, so they let her go pick mushrooms, while the three of them spent half a day picking chestnuts. After peeling the outer husks, they astonishingly gathered three loads in baskets, probably more than two hundred pounds!

Chiang Xiao also picked a backpack full plus two baskets of mushrooms, and she threw some directly into the Space after picking.

Otherwise, there was too much to carry back.

Speaking of which, she still had pheasants, hares, and partridges in her Space, and hadn’t found the opportunity to sell or eat them yet. Oddly enough, the Space was so strange that she hadn’t fed the catch more than a few times, yet they remained full of life and even seemed to have fattened up considerably.
