Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Attractive Widow (Ten more, asking for monthly pass)

Xu Linjiang was indeed willing to live with Chiang Xiao, but he was worried that Chiang Xiao might not be so keen, so he didn’t mention it and instead suggested they become neighbors.

He was sure he would often have to go up the mountain to hunt and gather wild vegetables. With only Xiao Tong at home, it would be good for her to be closer to Ge Liutao so they could look out for each other if anything happened.

Chiang Xiao nodded in agreement, ”That would be best.”

Although Chiang Xiao also thought Xu Linjiang and his wife were very nice and would probably get along well, when it really came to living together, she actually preferred a quieter life.

By that time, Ge Dejun and Liu Pei would most likely be living with their daughter and son-in-law. Ge Xiaotong would have children in the future, and with too many people around, even the best relationship could sour from day-to-day and month-to-month interactions, possibly leading to some disputes.

Besides, she didn’t plan to live in the town for too long. Living alone, she could leave whenever she wanted.

”Uncle, you guys look first; I’m in no hurry. I won’t have a vacation for another two or three months, and I’ll still be living in the village during this time,” she said.

”Alright, I got it,” he replied.

After a moment of thought, Chiang Xiao asked, ”Uncle, does Grandma Ge still not know about Granduncle and Grandmother resuming contact?”

”Grandma Ge?” Xu Linjiang was taken aback before he realized Chiang Xiao was referring to Ge Dejun and Ge Liutao’s mother. He said with a wry smile, ”She still doesn’t know. Your granduncle and grandaunt were discussing last night that they must keep this a secret; otherwise, letting her know could cause quite a stir.”

”What exactly happened between her and my grandmother? Do you know, Uncle? Is it because my grandmother insisted on marrying my grandfather?”

Chiang Xiao always felt that a mother and daughter couldn’t possibly sever their relationship so abruptly, not speaking for decades, stoic until death. After all, Siyang Village and Peace Town weren’t far apart. Wouldn’t it be normal for them to inquire about each other surreptitiously?

However, from what she had heard of Ge Dejun’s conversations over the past few days, even he had to carefully and secretly inquire about his elder sister’s news, avoiding letting Grandma Ge find out at all costs.

Could a mother’s heart really be that hard?

Xu Linjiang said, ”Xiao Tong told me that at home, their eldest aunt is a completely taboo subject. If brought up, their grandmother would fly into a rage, so they almost never mention the eldest aunt at home. I hear it’s also related to their grandmother’s maternal family, but I’m not entirely sure about the specifics. You can ask your grandaunt about it another day.”

Liu Pei would certainly know the clearest and most vivid details.

Chiang Xiao nodded.

After Xu Linjiang left, Chiang Xiao went with her grandfather to return the ox cart.

As they passed a vegetable patch, a woman holding a bamboo basket approached from the opposite direction. Her plump figure moved with great charm; her waist swaying as she walked, like a vibrant flower in the fields.

”Uncle Hai!”

At that tender call, alarm bells immediately went off in Chiang Xiao’s mind.

Liu Caiyun, Widow Liu!

It was Ge Liutao who called Chiang Songhai Uncle Hai, but according to custom, Liu Caiyun should use the honorific used by her husband, who addressed Chiang Songhai as ’Old Uncle Hai.’ However, Liu Caiyun instead chose to call him Uncle Hai!

Chiang Xiao’s eyes narrowed slightly.

”Grandfather, since when did Liu Caiyun gain the seniority to call you ’uncle’?”

Chiang Songhai was also taken aback, mumbling, ”It’s just a form of address; let her be.”

He was an honest man, unlikely to sternly tell her that she should call him Old Uncle. Besides, he didn’t have much interaction with Liu Caiyun and didn’t care what she called him.

While they talked, Liu Caiyun had already reached them.

She wore a fitted floral blouse. At a time when everyone’s clothes were loose and didn’t accentuate the body, Liu Caiyun’s attire was tight, hugging her firmly, highlighting the mature curves of her full chest and smooth waist.
